My brother is looking into starting a pretty intense mod project. He is wanting to make a computer out of a fire-truck stepping stool. He is wanting to get the opinions of people on the site and see what they have to say about it. Here is a link to the page where he is wanting to get the stool from.


If you could please leave some feedback on your thoughs, and any input or ideas that you have for it. Potential equipment for it would be a great help. He is looking for good gaming equip but at a reasonable price. The max budget he would be looking at would be about 1500 for the whole thing. So any input would be greatly appreciated.

Well MicroATX is 9.6x9.6", so any MicroATX motherboard should fit in there (well, maybe not... looking again I bet the measurements they give are external, so it maybe be signifantly smaller inside the box). Alternatively, miniITX is 15x15cm (CDs are 12cm in diameter), so that would fit no problem. Shuttle XPC motherboards and power supplies would be strong possibilites as well (my SN45Gv2's motherboard is probably no bigger than 7x8 - probably much smaller, actually).
 
That looks like it would be plenty of room for pc. Here's the measurements I'm using right now to rough out a computer case:

ATX Motherboard: 12" x 9.6" (.6 is roughly 3/5". I round up to 3/4")
HDD: 4x6x1
CD/DVD-Rom: 6 1/4" x 8 1/2" x 1 1/2"

As for a powersupply, I'm not all that sure, but it looks like it would all fit, but arranging components would be tricky. Maybe you could replace the black bumper looking thing with some perforated steel and use it as an intake for some fans...

That's all I've got right now.


Edit: Oooh.. ElektronikSeraph brings up a good point. Those measurements they give probably -are- external measurements. There's no telling how big that compartment is. MicroATX or perhaps m-ITX is the way to go.
 
I think you are right i think that is the inside messurements. I have been trying to find fire truck that i could build a gamer comp out off any help would be great
