Well I for one don't live up to the 10TB+ club, but thought this would be neat.

If it takes off we could add it to the FAQ Sticky.

I'll start

It's a CM stacker case. If you know what that looks like you know what my server looks like.

Wow,
My WHS is lowly in comparisson
I'll post up some pics later, but for now it's:
E2200 w/stock intel cooler
3GB DDR2 RAM
ECS 7050m motherboard (nightmare but got it working)
Trendnet Gigabit network card
1TB Hitachi Hard drive
400GB WD SATA HDD
80GB SATA WD (OS drive)
Coolermaster Elite case w/ old antec 350W ATX 2.0 PSU with 20-24pin adapter and SATA power adapters.

Now that I got he SATA port issue figured out and transfering at full speed instead of gimped IDE mode, the machine can transfer files like a real server. I just need more drive space.

E2180 @ stock

Celeron M 410 1.46GHz
1GB DDR2(2x512MB 667@533)
MSI Fuzzy GM1 - i945 chipset
2x500GB Maxtor SATA drives
Rosewill SI 3114 RAID card
Inwin/Powerman 240 watt PSU

~9" square. Maxes out at 60 watts, silent except for occasional spazz attacks of drive thrashing. One of these days I'll finish the matching extension case that will hold another 3 drives. Click the pic for more.

AMD A64 LE-1600 (2.2GHz) processor (doesn't need anything better)
GA-MA78G-DS3H mobo, 2 PCIE 16x slots for moar hdd cards (has onboard video)
1GB ram (it was cheap)
Silverstone ST56F 560W PSU
Supermicro drive cage (special order part in NZ)

All clad in a old-style Stacker case (not the Evo Type R one), with a drive cage. No point in posting a picture. Currently with a couple 1TB Samsung F1 drives in it, going to add more as I get more money and less free space. Depending on how the GB/$ works out, might be a WD 2TB.

Amazingly with all those drives and fans it is pretty quiet, and the best part it uses less than 400w load. I honestly expected more from so many drives.

server12_odm.jpg

^Modded a slim optical drive to fit in the bay, it let me put one last HDD above it. I've got the optical drive using an IDE adapter connected to a IDE to USB adapter.

Anyone want to make me a custom aluminum faceplate?

I <3 my little server.

Hey MatDef, I was wanting to know how you liked that Sans Digital TR4M-B? How is the quality of the box, any issues with it? I have been looked for some sort of external setup and was wanting to know how you liked your Sans Digital TR4M-B.

How do you post your whs console background?
How do you attach it to the post?
Cause I want to post mine as well.

Andreas

My little box consists of:
Abit AB9 Pro
intel e6700
3GB RAM
rosewill cheapo case
2x WD 1TB
2x Seagate 500gb
1x Seagate 1.5TB
Supermicro 5 bay shot swap
intel 1 port NIC

Advertise capacity is 4.5TB but its like 4 total.

I'll get pictures when i make it back down to basement

But here is my storage from console
Capture-11.jpg

In the next month or so i'll be adding 2 more 1TB drives, switching to a norco 4020 chassis, getting a raid card, and adding either a second NIC or replacing current with a dual port NIC

I've had no issues at all so far, installing it was easy (it comes with a pcie esata card and the drivers on a disc) and its been rock solid for me since day one. Once I fill up this one I'm gonna get a second, since the esata card has 2 ports, I'll just plug it right in. The only problem I has was when I added the new drive without powering the system off, it turned off for half a second before rebooting and spinning up the drives. Scared the shit outta me, but whs didn't even notice and it's been fine since, next time I think I'll read the manual. :p

I haven't measured the speed, but since I only use it for storage it's been fine, though it might slow down the drives inside by a few mb/s.

Also, there's a good review of it (with lots of pics) here:

OCZ 500w modxstream PSU
AMD 5050e cpu
Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H rev 1.1 mobo
2GB OCZ SLI DDR2-800 RAM
Icybox 5 in 3 hot swap bay
PCMCIA 2 in 1 hot swap bay for 2.5" hdd
Supermicro PCI-X 8port sata card
Intel 2 port PCI-E x4 NIC
System HDD: Seagate 7200.10 320GB

Storage HDDs:
WD EACS 1TB x3
WD EADS 1TB x1
Samsung H103UI 1TB x3
Seagate 1.5TB x1

Torrent HDD: WD 250gb

now if only I can figure out how to get SMART working under AHCI......even though I have HDD SMART enabled under bios, the temperatures are still not being read. also for the supermicro card, I can get temps but nothing else....

i need some more sata drives....right now i have 5 x 500gb and no more sata ports....im thinking on picking up a sata controller to add more ports and maybe a 1 or 2 1tb drives and then later get rid of the 500gb and upgrade...so which sata controller do you recommend ...no need for raid..just need more ports

many here recommend Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8, it's 8 ports on a pci-x (compatible with pci), around $90, I have it in the box I just posted.

Can you guys post your power consumption numbers as well? I notice alot of people here seem to have builds that are overkill for WHS, so I am just curious

Im new to the whole Windows Home Server thing, but I thought I would post up my build. My house is wired for cat5e, so I decided to conveniently put my WHS in the basement. Out of sight and no need to worry about noise. It is near the main water line though, Im kind of paranoid that it might burst or my basement might flood one day.

Antec EarthWatts 380 power supply. 80plus certified.
APC 450VA UPS (with GridJunction add-in)
Foxconn G31MV-K Motherboard
Celeron 430
1GB Ram
640GB WD Blue SE16 main system drive.
1TB WD Green WD10EADS

The whole system draws about 45 watts idle, and a little over 50 watts loaded. Ive also set it up so that the server automatically shuts down at 12am and wakes at 6am. This should be a 25% savings in power consumption, but more importantly, reduce 2190 power on hours a year, hopefully saving some wear and tear on the hard drives.

i dont have any pictures at moment but here is my spec

Windows Home Server

Coolermaster 590 Tabs between bays removed with a file
Intel D945GCLF
Adaptec 1420SA Supermicro CSE-M35TQ, 2off Stoke fans replaced
Seagate hard drives, 7off of various types and capacity

PSU is upside down so PSU fan does not pull in dust from beneath case
The drive tray in white is intensional and is the system drive
The DVD is there for the very few times it is required
The extra molex power connectors are there for when another CSE-M35TQ is added; at which point the DVD drive will be removed
Have a Supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 ready for when more storage is required
The unmanaged drive is used for manual back-up of the computer back-up database. I had a corruption in the back-up data (due to a bad sector on a pool hard drive). Learnt my lesson.

Why can't PSU manufacturers make the mobo power cables longer?? :(

Next build will use the Supermicro X8SIL-F motherboard
• mATX
• on-board video, Matrox G200
• 6 on-board SATA
• 3 PCIe slots
• Dual Intel 1GIG NIC
• Uses some weird-ass memory
Looks a nice board, and I like supermicro stuff. :p

For those interested....
The drive temperatures....
Drive 0 is a Seagate 7200.10 320GIG (in white drive tray)
Drive 1 is a Seagate LP 2000GIG (to the left of the white drive tray)
There are no other drives in that 5into3 module
Even I was surprised at the temperature difference between the two
