Post your retro hardware.

Thanks! I got the boxes at the container store... they are about 9 bux each and I got little lucite stands there as well for a couple bux each..

this came out better than I had hoped.... I want to do some with motherboards also.. not sure the "cereal box" sized display cube will work for that.. but maybe..

EDIT: missed the cpu box question, it's the same as the others just smaller size... all found at the container store.

ha i was feeling bad about some of the old bits i had laying about (wishing i had sold them when they had value or got rid of them)

this thread has made me feel better ...lol

also what is sad is some of the old cases are so much better build (solid) than today's but lack the features for a modern build

i was looking at the side panels of the two enlight EN750s cases i had laying about the metal is so much thicker and sturdier than most new cases.. of course they are heavy for mids and can only mount 2x 80mm fans.. with basically no cable management options..and they are beige...

anyways so i pulled the ramsinks off my old Geforce 3ti 200 and put it in the ewaste box... today.. made me a little sad :( oh well life goes on.. I also but a RT314 router in the good will bag and sorted out about a dozen assorted 10/100 NIC cards and found I found i have a FX-55 a Athlon 64 x3200 and a A8V and A8V-XE i need to figure out what to do with, i also found my old 2500XP and N7F-S and I found a 1800XP also.. pretty much all that stuff needs to go from my house cause I don't have room for nostalgia currently...

This is my DOS Box. It was my first computer. It's was originally a P1 75MHz with 8 MB of RAM with an 800 MB HDD. I upgraded it to a P1 133MHz, 48 MB of RAM, with a 1.2 GB HDD. It has Win 3.11 and DOS on it. I still use it to play old DOS games.

Soon it will have it's own desk and monitor rather than using a KVM switch with my backup system.

Here it is playing Doom.

This is my backup system. It's an amalgam of parts from older computers I built. The case is new but it has a PIII 1GHz, 512 MB of RAM, GeForce 5200FX 100 GB HDD, and a Zip drive for good measure. I use it as a backup machine as well as a system to play older games that run well in XP but don't like Vista or 7.

It's going to be upgraded soon to an AMD X2 4400.

And these are some other old systems I have hanging around. I use them for spare parts for the DOS Box.

Please don't tell me you play your DOS games on an LCD :) If you have a dedicated real DOS box, please use a CRT.

Next time I'm near my parent's house, I'll have to go dig out my old Apple ][ c+ and snap a few pics... Takes me back to such awesome games as Aztec, Swashbuckler, and Hard Hat Harry... Green on black gaming FTW...

Wow, I am so pissed that I never kept all my old video cards and did what he did. My inner nerd just died.

yeah not quite retro I guess.. not the best post I ever made...

@PolygonGTC: my mother bought that exact model of Packass Bell from Circuit City in 1994. From the day she got them to finally agree to a free 8mb (total 16mb) RAM upgrade until the day they went out of business, she refused to go in that store.

Considering they lied to us about how it would run Win95 AND programs just fine (needed 16mb min for Word95, etc.), I don't blame her one bit -- not the least because it didn't work right even AFTER the damn upgrade!

The system itself eventually died by virtue of deleting its own boot sequence from the BIOS... it would hang during startup. I suspect that the fact that it had never been cleaned had something to do with it -- dust shorting out the EEPROM or such. When I finally got rid of it (after discovering it in a closet), I figured I was being merciful.

BTW... if you have the original games and such that came with that system, PM me cuz I'm looking for a particular one that literally is unobtainable otherwise, and it's on the one CD I *didn't* save from the one we had... or at least cannot find literally anywhere...
