That is a classy picture of some classy 'phones. Nice job!

Nice and formal I would say... but nothing like the sheer fatness and nipple-ness that is the 6C33C tubes.
I guess it was the 'scared' thing I was latching on to. The nipples won't hurt you... the plate/ground on a pentode might. :)

The 6CU6 pentode regulator tube I have [rightmost tube in this pic] on the front of my amp is pretty fat, though still not in 6C33C territory. Oh well, what I lack in fatness, I make up in sheer quantity. :p

here is my Sennheiser HD485
and my custom stand

DAMN that is cool. Nice job!

Pioneer SE-DIR800C: pure Dolby/DTS goodness. To be honest, I don't love the phones as much as I love the receiver. I'm probably going to buy another pair of ATH-A900 and connect it.

Note to self: Need to build a stand for the phones.

I made this headphone hanger real quick the other night out of some stuff I had laying around... I think it turned out pretty good for a quickie. I may try to make a better one, I'm not sure yet. I thought about making one using some acrylic in the mix.
I am really enjoying these cans, they sound really good for $50, but now I'm wondering where $200 would get me in terms of sound quality improvement over the MDR-V6. I guess this is how it all gets started. I better hold on that one, I have to get my 24" LCD monitor first.

You made a good hanger. As for your question regarding $200 headphones, they get considerably better than those V6... I know I'm opening a can of worms.. :p. Better keep away from HeadFi... those people are NUTS!! They'll suck you in and bleed you dry.

Stay away... you've been warned.

Thanks for the compliment... and the warning :) I know this audio thing can be like a drug... one taste and you start selling things for better highs... and lows ;)
Oh and by the way, congrats on your new toy, wish I had the dough for something like that.

heh tell me about it...i came in thinking i was hardcore with a set of shure e4g's....now i just threw myself to the bottom of the totem pole, working on a DAC, then maybe a Darkvoice
then hopefully i will be done, as long as i stay away from chicago and head-fi meets

Yeah they still have these for $50 a pair at frys.com, they also have the R300 floorstanding for $50 each, and the R50 floorstanding for $60 each.
I really love my Polk R150s and my new Onkyo receiver... now I have plans for a new set of speakers... I considered getting a pair of Polk R50s, but then I found another pair of bookshelves that really tickled my fancy. So I'm going to have my gaming/movie speakers on the A switch and my music speakers on the B switch of my receiver. I got a new sub in the works as well, and I need a decent center channel too. I'll post pictures when I get it all worked out :D

How much you get em for? mine were snatched at 169$ new

gotta love end of generation deals

and anyone got any ideas on DAC's? im looking at 200$ used or new

Seriously leaning towards an Opus kit from Twisted Pear, maybe a zahalou

Are those the ones that were on sale for 50 bucks or so at frys?

Yes, I have them as well, they are awesome, not quite a sub replacement, but close, they sound better the louder you turn them up!!!

I was going to get the R50s, but....I want these:
http://chambana.craigslist.org/ele/498984631.html

Those for about 5 dollars more and free shipping, moar bass, or moar quality, bass will win!!!

My dad has one of these from somewhere and WOW, he doesn't need a sub if he actually used his one!!!

If these sound legit when I buy them I will buy 'em and pwn you fools with them. I guarantee they have more bass than most speakers on the post speakers thread :O

Hell, I don't even know if I will need my 10" Onkyo sub that came with the HTIB..... 30" of sub= PAWNAGE!!!

Mine were $200 used, but that included shipping to Canada, and it was a year or two ago. They are a bit more expensive up here and they usually just sell the black ones from what I've seen. [Mine are the cherry version]

SB3 -> PS Audio DAC III -> Cary SLP-05 -> Sony SA5000

I gotta get to sleep so I will post a quick review/impressions tomorrow.

Anyway, here are the pics...

If you look closely, you will see that the tubes in the headphone amplification circuit (far right) are different (and shorter) than the remaining tubes of the input/output gain sections... I rolled in some NOS Sylvania 6sn7GTA tubes and boy do they sound GOOOOD!

The SLP05 is such a nice nice nice headphone amp. Preliminary impressions seem to be that the 05 to sound better than I remember my Headamp GS-1 to sound... more natural and better sense of staging. Class A headphone amp, zero-feedback design... 8 tubes from inputs to amplification... what more can I ask for?

I guess I'm back, huh?

I can't wait for the HD650s... those are still my babies...

I just got those a few days ago. I really love these things. So much better than my 280pros. :) Of course, they require more juice, but that's what my amp's for.

i have a gut feeling those headpone output tubes are worth more than the headphones themselves.....
