Pfew... thanks.
I don't know how much more of that I could have taken. :p

Just wait till I get my hands on a pair of RS-2's. :D
And, I just scored a cosmetically perfect SR-60 with a wire problem in one channel for 20 bucks. Should be a fun project to experiment with.

What don't you like about them?

While I like Grado's, I think the only models that I could be happy with long-term would be the HP1000's or PS1's. Since they are both out of my price range for now I will stick with my AKG K340's. I have a pair of HF-1's, which are nice for hip hop and some rock, but they only get around 5% of my listening time.

Not sure why Marshall dislikes Grado's... but then again, his main headphones are Sennheisers. *shudder* :p

I think you should #1, allow your 650's to properly break in.. and #2, get something with a little more juice than a cmoy to feed your 650's. You should notice a pretty noticeable difference once you break them in and give them the power they need. It was a night and day difference with my 770's after I let them break in. I don't think you aren't getting the most out of your cans with a cmoy. The 650's are pretty hard to drive.. I can barely push my 770's with one.

Well surprisingly my laptop drives the 650s up to ear-splitting volume, but that doesn't mean I'm getting the best sound quality. I have decided to keep them and I'm going to pick up a Gilmore Lite amp. I few people have recommend letting them sit stretched out over 3 or 4 thick books when I'm not using them to improve the comfort level, so I'm going to give that a shot. Next time I'm going to be sure to demo the headphones before I make a purchase, the way the 650s clamp my head together really bugs me lol.

sry bout the quality, took it a while ago with my old cell phone

Comfort... or should I say lack there of?

When did we start typing about Beyers? :D

And BTW belated happy birthday.;)

Comfort, there's the pickle. A very big one at that. I must happen to be one of the few who have no problem with them, I've worn the heavy SR-325i's for over 5 hours without trouble. Still, you could simply cut your ears off to make a nice fit, I've heard that was more comfortable from some people than wearing Grado's. :D

Beyers, how can you sleep with that much bass pumping into your brain? Not speaking of the DT880 here, offcourse.

And thanks, I should be happy with a lot of new toys, but instead, I'm pissed off. I can't seem to find my own present for myself, a second hand RS-2. :(

I must be an odd one.. or the MS-1s are alot different. I've never had comfort issues with them, even after long periods of gaming. I fine them a welcome change sometimes from the sweaty ear I get from the closed a900s :)

Also: The ms-1s are good for gaming. I find I get excellent position placement with them, but they only lack in the depth of that position. So I'll know someone is coming from behind me but I don't necessarily know how far. I still end up with ample warning to turn and shoot before they think I know they're there though.

Well, apparently all 3 of us are odd, because I have no comfort issues with my SR225 either. It's bent outward so it lightly rests on my ears, and it's very light. I wear it for over an hour often, and I'm not uncomfortable.

My HF-1's are sorta comfortable... my K340's are incredibly comfortable. Especially since getting the velour pads. :)

So MisterX, this one is for you, you sennheiser loving freak. :D

:D:D

Yes, more Magic Red HD-595's to be sold. :D

I wish I could get my grubby hands on one of those red babies, but unfortunetly the SR225 lightened my wallet, and I don't like the 595 sound anyway. Look like freakin' beauties though.

Yes, they do. I don't like their sound either though. :)

I just sold my SR-325i. I allready miss it. Still, a RS-2, RS-1, or MS-Pro will replace it, so I'm not sad. :D

That's my HD280's headband. For those who aren't familiar with them, there's supposed to be plastic covering that. That's a nice 1-1.5" chunk that broke off, all from normal use. They're on their way to Sennheiser now.

Will not be needing that auction anymore. Guess who just bought a RS-1? :D

Congrats on the new phones.
I hope you are not going to be one of those suckers that thinks he needs a RA1 to go with them. :p

Haha, no, I'd rather have a Cmoy. ;)

At the moment my amps are a Firestone Cute Beyond and a EC-01 (which is still on the way to me). The EC-01 is really meant for high impedance headphones (will make a 250ohm adapter to see how that works out) and the Cute Beyond isn't quite up to the RS-1 level, so I guess I'll be shopping for a new amp aswell. Not too sure what to look for though. I was looking at something along the lines of a PPX3. Will consider something sub $750 shipped, you don't happen to build the perfect match, do you?

I'll also be looking at a new source, driving a +-$1200 system with a $120 usb dac seems pretty out of scale. Oh Head-Fi, what have you done to me.

Hey mine did that too, the plastic cracked, but I just enforced it with some black electrical tape. Hasn't bothered me since.

Yeah, I've heard it's pretty common... I thought about keeping it but I had a few months left on the warranty, so I sent it in. From what some folks on Head-Fi said they have a new headband now that doesn't break, so I may end up just getting all-new 'phones out of the deal. In the meantime I just have to settle for my SR60 and HD497.

One of the few hd280 refurbs i bought from ecost a while back arrived broken like that. Sent it into sennheiser canada and got it back about 3 weeks later repaired under warranty.

Currently halfway creating a Frankengrado.
It was a SR-60 with a dead driver. It's currently sporting Phillips drivers, which, in the original Grado housing, sounds surprisingly good. I'll be trying various drivers though, any recomendations?
Anyways, some work in progress shots:

Isolation tape around the housing is great, it'll keep the housing together tightly but still be easy to take apart when needed.

Needs lots of bondo and paint. :)
It'll become all black, with a metal grill instead of the SR-60's plastic one.

I don't get it, why are tube amps so special? Weren't tube electronics the thing of the 50's?
Nope, they are still around and offer a different flavour than solid state. There have been advancements in both. Personally, I prefer tubes, but I can see why some like solid state.

Yeah I recall you bought surfboarz pair?

Does Kevin Gilmore still sell PCB boards for the KGSS? I contacted Justin a few weeks ago and contrary to popular belief (on Headfi) he is still building KGSS amps!

Tube amps are technically inferior to Solid State, it's a proven fact. However, there is still a nitch that *believes* they have a different/better sound.

Bit confused by your post. Kevin Gimore designs the Headamp amps. So Justin of headamp.com sold you just the PCB boards?
