So i've got GTAV it tuned out to give both great smooth performance and a decent number of graphical options turned on/up and I was curious what kind of performance other board members with more beastly systems than me and what settings they can get away using and still Have Great Performance. Please also post your system specs we can see which types of systems run GTAV the best.

First off, my new specs:
i5-2310 @ 2.9ghz|8GB Mushkin Silverline DDR3-1600
Asus Z77-A|Zotac GTX750 1GB (I just got this card)

And my bench results:

I'm extremely impressed with how well GTAV runs compared to GTAIV. Rockstar obviously spent a lot more time and care with their port this time around and I'm happy to see that I finally have a PC game that can truly use 4 cores. Post your bench results too so we can compare!

Whoa! That's a lot of info! But I'm glad to hear it runs well on a rig pretty close to in-line with my current setup.

Can you boil these numbers down a little? What was the Min/Max/Average FPS? Does it tell you those, or you have to do the math yourself? I haven't found that info in here yet.

Edit, nm, I'm blind. Just didn't understand how it was broken out. I'd still like to see an average of the averages here for min/max/avg fps. :D

I've condensed my benchmark results as much as I can without leaving out useful comparison information. This is a fantastic benchmark really, the best i've used in any PC game. The benchmark in IV was bugged and didn't give you accurate numbers, but every tiny little graphic adjustment I make shows a difference in my performance numbers. I was actually able to get above 60FPS performance over 99% of the time with lower settings on every pass, but I feel the setting I chose is an ideal compromise between performance and graphics. I'm curious to see how you guys with 6-8 core CPUS and high end graphics cards fare against my system performance wise.

You guys are that embarrassed by your benchmark results huh? :D

It wasn't my overclock. the game is bugged. joining Story mode first allowed me to run it however thanks mr_zen

Even though I am not a fan of the series, they deserve credit for doing a good job with GTA V. Good game, definitely worth playing. I got the PS4 version. Good to hear the PC version runs well unlike the stinker that was GTA IV.

Is there a standalone benchmark client? Because I don't have the game, but I would bench it. :p

No there's not. Is there really no one here that wants to flaunt their GTAV performance as I did? I thought this was the [H]ardforum, the home of the proud (just look at out sigs to see how proud we are) No one wants to challenge my 5 year old CPU to this 2015 game and show me how [H]ard they are? :D I just ordered a 32GB kit of Crucial DDR3 RAM to upgrade this rig with and i'll let you know if it helps my FPS at all once I get it installed. I'm hoping it will reduce some of the long loads i've been getting in GTA Online.

I used the [H]ardocp guide for settings. I can try again with more robust settings if you want. I turned my video card's fan up to make sure no throttling and my video card hit 52C during the testing. Love this case for reference cards. ;) I do wish I had bought a 290X though. R9 290 mining card with a broken off connectors is still hanging tough though. :)

I don't think that was bad for an almost 5 year old PC build. I bought the motherboard 6 months before Bulldozer launched in 2011 and originally had a triple core processor in it. ;)

I'm not going to drop $60 when my Steam library has over a dozen games on my to do list. If I get this for Christmas, then I'll post results.

If you could find a game with a free benchmark, perhaps that would be a better use of your time?

Also, ZodaEX:

You know you can overclock your i5 by +400 MHz, right? That would gie you even longer lifetime of gaming before you have t+o upgrade.

I fianlly paid for it. how do i get it to post a note pad of the deets? it plays amazingly for a 4 year old card and after coming from the PS3 version......the visuals blow me away. also ducking.....since when?

Run the benchmark in the game. After that look in My Documents / Rockstar Games / GTAV (where it is at least for me) for the notepad file with the benchmark results.

This was done with everything on normal as much as possible

Also, ZodaEX:

You know you can overclock your i5 by +400 MHz, right? That would gie you even longer lifetime of gaming before you have t+o upgrade.

Is it possible for me to get that 400mhz overclock without having to mess with increasing the voltage & stability testing? When i look in my bios the highest multiplier i can select is 29.

Yup, it's adjusting the max turbo boost, not a multiplier adjustment. Multiplier is only unlocked on the K processors.

See here where they overclocked a Core i5 2400 by 400 MHz:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300_11.html

All desktop Core i5 and i7s (Sandy and Ivy) can do this on an overclocking motherboard. Since all turbo-boost parts are validated with a predefined voltage curve in the factory, they don't need any voltage tweaks. You might want to do a stability check, but it's very rare that that small an overclock causes issues.

Wish more people would post some benchmarks. After you OC your processor I would like to see a new benchie from you ZodaEX. I was hoping to see what someone with an Intel processor and a R9 290 does so that I can have a basis for evaluating an upgrade in the future.

Sorry I don't own the game. I have my 2500k lightly overclocked.

My wife has a 2500k at home. I may end up picking up a 290 soon if I can find one for less than 200$. lets see what happens.

Default|User, thanks for the tip about overclocking +400Mhz! All I did was simply go into my bios, enabled turbo and then after I saved and got into bios again it allowed me to set the multiplier at 33 no problems. Verified with openhardware monitor, and the CPU is ramping from 1.6 to 3.3 ghz just as if it was a 3.3ghz CPU all along, very nice and easy! And yes it did give me a quite noticeable performance boost in GTAV as I was definitely CPU bottlenecked and this game is amazing at loading up all 4 cores. I re-ran the benchmark and got a good bit more framerate then before, however at this point the only thing that's holding me back from cranking any settings up anymore is my lack of V-RAM on my 1GB GTX750. I'm at 1012MB/1023MB V-RAM usage in the settings and even though I now have framerate to spare, turning any more graphic settings up exceeds my available V-RAM. Pretty sweet though because it effectively changed my bottleneck from being my CPU over to my GPU. I'm very pleased with my current performance and my system is still inaudible to me so i'd say this has definitely extended the life of my CPU significantly. (This is like the only game I play now)

New benchmark after 3.3Ghz O/C and a few small graphic setting changes:

Very High Shadows absolutely murders my framerate. It's my lowest set option at High. Everything else is Very High and Postfx is Ultra. Stays at 60 until I'm in the hills or a very grassy area and it hovers around 40-45.

You missing out. :p

Why does everyone play in 1920x1080????

I play at 1920X1080 because I use an LCD monitor that has what they call a "native resolution" This means images rendered at 1920X1080 have a perfect 1 to 1 pixel matchup and look very sharp, as the image should. At some point high definition TVs were introduced at 720P and 1080P resolutions, and there was a big format war between "HD-DVD" and Blu-Ray". Blu-Ray in the end won the format war using a super strict 1080p resolution, and this in turn lead 1920X1080p to be the most common resolution for both tvs and computer monitors because it's a perfect 1 to 1 pixel matchup for watching Blu-Rays which won the format war earlier. TV and monitor manufacturers, in response to Blu-Ray winning the format war ramped up production on 1920X1080p screens, then in turn the overwhelming majority of video game developers of console and PC games started including 1920X1080p as a resolution option in their games.

Have you ever tried to run a PC game, go to setup your graphic options, but are disappointing to find that the game dosen't support the resolution of your monitor? Well it's happened to me hundreds of times over the years. There are lots of ways to work around the issue with 3rd party utilities, but the fixes tend to be different for each and every game. At a certain point I realized that I was spending as much time getting my PC games to work properly then I was actually playing the games. That's when I decided I wanted a 1080p screen because at this moment it appears to be the most likely adequate resolution to be supported by the games I want to play. That's why I game at 1920X1080p at least, i'm not sure about the others here.

If I used a DP to VGA adapter I could go higher res wise but would that really help at all?

2560X1600 with everything maxed except MSAA. Not bad for 7950 3GB Trifire. :D

I was worried when I ran the benchmark on default settings with triple screens and it was slowing down to 30 FPS.
I turned off VSync, dropped Grass Quality to High, Shadow Quality to Normal, Ambient Occlusion to Normal and just ran with FXAA..
The performance seems to be fine now at 5460x1050 with a single R9 290X.

Wouldn't I be able to run at a higher resolution and not have to worry about all of the anti aliasing options(well not all of them)?

Again it's subjective depending on your personal preferences. I personally don't have good enough vision to ever bother to use AA. My eyes create their own natural blurring/pixel smoothing effect that I think drastically reduces the benefit of AA for me. Plus, i've always ready that unlike AF, AA sometimes had the side effect of reducing image quality. That's just what i've read online though and i'm not sure if there is some kind of special AA that doesn't do that. Running at a higher resolution is always good if your system can handle the load. For me, 120/144 Herts is a more important feature to have then 4k, but if your budget allows for a monitor that supports both then even better. I'm still tweaking around my game settings and it's been a ton of fun. At this point on all 5 benchmark passes, I now get over 60 FPS 99.X percent of the time:

Frames under 16ms (for 60fps):
Pass 0: 889/895 frames (99.33%)
Pass 1: 963/964 frames (99.90%)
Pass 2: 893/893 frames (100.00%)
Pass 3: 968/969 frames (99.90%)
Pass 4: 11016/11079 frames (99.43%)

At first I thought it was wasteful tweaking the settings down to achieve this kind of performance because I had to sacrifice some of the eye candy settings to get there, but let me tell you. After playing both singleplayer and GTA Online with 60 FPS +99% of the time, I am a better driver than I ever was in GTAIV. In my Upgraded Sultan RS I can haul ass on the highway at full speed, weaving like a madman between traffic with no stutters or slowdowns when passing threw dense traffic and never hit other cars because the game performance is so good I can react in time to avoid collisions. On the X360 version I would never ever stand a chance at driving that fast because the FPS is so poor I don't have time to react to what i'm seeing. I'm in the process of upgrading to 16GB of RAM and i'll post another updated benchmark once i'm done with that and any last final tweaks I make.

Alright, here are the settings i've settled with. :)
