Ok, I'm just giving up on selling my FX 55 and just going to overclock the dang thing and be done with it :)

I would like to see some specs on exactly what your settings are on your overclocked FX 55...FSB...Memory...HTT...or any other settings. I'm a 100% noobie at overclocking and have been reading alot, but would like to see some specs that other people are getting. I'm going to overclocking on air...not water.

I'll hopefully get a chance to oc my computer this weekend, But why were you trying to sell your fx? To SLow? :p

And what core did you have ? Clawhammer?
 
I'm a toal noob too and have the following settings:

HTT 205
Multi x13.5
LDT x5
Memory 1:1 (198mhz)
core speed 2767.8 according to cpuz

Very little but just air cooling and far too warm in there atm. End of the month i have 2 arctic coolers on my shopping list for the 6800ultra's. Should drop the temp inside the case and hence the cpu by quite a bit.
 
The best bet you have is to find the limit on your other components before your CPU. Find how high your motherboard's HTT can go, how high your memory can go, etc. Once you know those limits, going for the fun part (the CPU :D) will be alot easier. Just follow Eclipse's guide.

Well, I just spent around 2 grand in February upgrading my personal pc. I went from an AMD A64 3200+ 2.2 ghz 1 meg L2 cache to the FX 55 and wasn't impressed. I saw no performace difference. So, I was going to sell it and get a new X2 dual core AMD cpu.

Core = Clawhammer

Well, to answer some of the questions...I would like to go as high as I could on air cooling...whatever that might be. My current hsf is Thermaltake PowerChill OPT, which my cpu runs around 49 degrees C at stock settings and even up to 2.8 ghz when I've tested that.

I know I need to test my other components, but I wanted to see what settings others are getting with their FX 55 setup to compare to mine.
 
Before you try to Oc your CPU what is the stepping code and production date of the cpu. That will tell you alot before you ever try to oc. What kind of differences were you expecting to see from the previous processor to this one? were you looking for gaming improvement? or just everyday stuff like surfing the net and doing office and normal tasks like MP and movies and the such? It should give you a very good boost for games.. But that to is also dependant upon the other hardware.. you would see almost no real increase in everday stuff like surffing the net or doing office stuff. But encoding MP3 ro video will get another boost from the switch once again also dependant on what else is in the system. The biggest thing that you can really see the difference on is benchmarks. you should have a much higher 3dmark01 bench and super PI as well as other benchmarks that are out there. that aside. I have had my FX55 running @ anywhere from stock all the way to 3.4ghz.. But once again the performance and overclocking will really depend on what you have now as parts and other things as potentials.. need more info..

Well, I was looking for overall performance on everything...gaming...video encoding...dvd ripping...multi-tasking...you name it...etc.

I upgraded my whole system to the specs in my sig. At the time everyone everywhere was screaming the FX 55 was the killer cpu to have and the fastest thing alive. That may have been true...but from my experience...I only see it as very slightly faster than what I had. Yes, maybe all the hype comes from the fact that it can be overclocked to 3.4 ghz...but at stock speed I'm not impressed. I'm not bashing it...but for $884.00...I expected a lot more :rolleyes:
 
Changed mine to the settings below after failing Prime95 torture with the 13.5X Multi

HTT 210
Multi x13
LDT x4
Memory 1:1
core speed 2736.5 according to cpuz

I'm sure i can push it some more quite easily. Heat doesn't seem to have climbed much and its passing the prime95 test now.
 
try to stay away from 1/2 multi's, they mess with the ram speed (runs slower than it would otherwise)

also, heat doesn't really increase until you bump up the vcore ;)

HTT = 3x
Multi = 11x
CPU V = 1.6
Nforce V = 1.? (sorry forgot)
DDR v = 2.6 using 1:1 ratio (I LOVE G-SKILL RAM)
My total OC is equal too 2871MHz, and I have plenty room for more, just haven't had time to tweak it yet..... OH YA, thanks CAPTIAN INSANO, good to hear from you again.

That's excellent. What's your cooling/case/temps? I have the system in my spec and my temps are not excellent to say the least. As I said b4, I expect to be able to get more when I get the NV5's but at the moment I get 53C load with a room temp of 22C. At the weekend the room temp was 28 and the machine didn't like it one bit :)

My computers are in a basement where is is so COLD, it must be atleast 65f in the room, if not colder. Im using a XP90 w/ a 92mm tornado, and the video cards are stock cooling....
 
Now that would be handy. Mine are in the living room, the second warmest room in the house. It was 28C outside today and 31C inside grrr
