Why is core temp and real temp only show 2 cores on my system i just put in a q9550. I had a e5200.
reinstall them maybe.. could also be a windows thing.. not sure though.. but i would make sure that windows is seeing all 4 cores as well..

stock intel cooler right now idle 48c and full load 75c.
two 80mm case fans just don't cut it...i've been lookin at the nzxt tempest evo, what do u think?

Ok so my temps have gone down a ton. Testpest Evo and Xigmatek Dark Knight w/ artic cooling mx-2.
Idle is 37-40c
Max i hit at full load in prime95 was 58c.
Much happier now that my temps seem in the same category as everyone else. I was at 3.4ghz with the stock cooler and im at 3.6 now. I would post some pics to prove it but Hard forum still hates me and won't let me attach images.

The Main system, (specs in sig on the left), idles at between 29-31C and load is between 37-40C as verified by an infrared thermometer. The HTPC, (in the sig on the right), idles at about 36C and load is about 44C.

i7 920 @ 4.0GHz with an H50, push/pull. Around 39c at idle and max at 74c at 100% load running a VM with F@H set to -bigadv. Also ran IntelBurnTest at 5 passes and hit 75c max and passed.

i7 920 @ 4.3Ghz - 1.375vcore, stock VTT, stock everything else. 205 BCLK x 21.0

HT off.

Prime 95 small FFT load -> 67'C on cores
Idle -> 40'C on cores

yay!

HT off? Of course "Yay" it'd be cool. Turn it on and it'd still be under 80c most probably

HT really throws a LOT of heat. Would probably hit 80 at least. If not higher. That's just a bit too high for me to be comfortable, and plus I have no applications that would use more than 4 threads anyways.

I7 920 with H50 cooler @ 4.0 GHz. Memory at 1600.
Speed step, Thermal management, C1 state, HT, VT everything enabled.

Asus smart fans enabled as well because I don't like the sound of Jet engines while I surf the web or game :D

Ran Intelburn at 8 threads.

my temps are shameful
i7 920 air cooled TRUE
@3.8GHz (200x19) idle 50c load 87c
@3.15GHz (150x21) idle 47c load 71c

The difference between the two is a whole one notch on vCore in BIOS, reads 1.248-1.28V after vdroop in CPUZ @3.15GHz, I think it's needing the extra juice to run 6 sticks of RAM stable, unfortunately RAM is a bit pricey right now otherwise it'd be worth swapping out the 6 for an equivalent single set. I've tried to get it stable at 4GHz but it won't happen under without risking temps & a high vCore so I'm waiting to try some more on that until I can get something better setup as far as cooling goes. Switching to WC soon hopefully. :)

just changed fan setup:
intel i5 3.5 GHz
vcore 1.18

h50
Radiator--->shroud---> fan (pushing)

idle 33C
load 53C

its quieter than push pull and just as efficient.

I finally figured out what was holding me back from getting 12GB (6x2GB) corsair 1600 stable in my system, also brought my temps down a bit in the process. I need to clean my case out and re-paste/seat everything, should bring temps down a bit more but I'm finally happy with where I got my OC & temps to on air w/ a TRUE & 6 noctua silent fans:

I need to upload my 4.2Ghz overclock with the Noctua fans at full blast. For now though....how about a passive NH-D14 with only stock HAF fans to help out?

It looks like your computer is running really hot but I can't tell with prime 95 and CPU-Z in the way.

Man 70+ degrees seems way too hot for these CPUs. Is that normal for i7's?

Anyways...

e6420 - 1.10vcore

Ran prime 95 for 4 hours -> 34C
Idle -> 28C

Undervolting makes CPUs run very cool :)

70c is fine.. 80c when overclocked is fairly normal. Undervolting isn't very [H]ard :)

Lol. True, but I turned my gaming rig into a HTPC, and I am currently switching from a mid tower case, with 2 120mm fans, and a AC Freezer 7 Pro, to a smaller case, with no case fans and the intel stock cooler. So undervolting was necessary :). I'm kind of surprised 70+C is normal. I remember one summer being in a apartment with no A/C, and my Athlon 64 was rocking 64C. I thought i was being mean and abusing it lol.

See sig for rig

Idle at 33C. Load at 49C

MSI's motherboard application is the only thing that correctly displays temperatures, after unlocking 4th core.

This is one of the reasons why I love my Noctua NH-D14. This is in my HAF with stock fans and the stock Noctua fans all full out......and very quite I might add.

4.3Ghz with 1.425v core (~1.375v after droop), Room ambient is 22-24C

I'm pretty much at the limit of my setup. I'm pretty sure its the memory sticks but I don't have any others lying around to test that out.
