Post experience with Grey screen crash while using ATI Cards

this thread is for recording the occurrence of crashes with the ATI cards which result in a striped screen of various colors. Everyone please post; this includes those of you who have had the crashing screens as well as those who haveNOT had the crashing screens. This is for the ability to see how many people are crashing an how many are not.

Please post your:
1. Computer Specs
2. Over Clocked settings (on card and processor)
3. Frequency of occurrence
4. Average running temp of computer
5. Possible fixes that have been tried
6. Result of those fixes listed below


Fixes i have read with varying results:
1. Underclock the card's processor to 825 MHz
2. Disable HDMI drivers
3. Dont install the windows updates (have not heard results on this)
4. Mess with Bios
5. Increase Fan speed (keep the card at a cooler temp)

2. i7 OCed to 4.0GHz. GPUs are not OCed
3. 2D settings-With 2 cards in my machine I crash at least once or twice an hour. Now that I've been running only one card the frequency has dropped to about once every two hours or so.
3D settings- With two cards games were virtually unplayable. With one in I can play for about 30 mins before I crash.
4. Temps are stable- CPU idles~ 40c load ~70c GPU idles~ 38-44c load ~75-80c
5. Reverted back to 8.651 drivers, didn't help.
Raised PowerPlay settings from 157/300 to 400/900(this lead to BSOD instead of stripes)
Increased fan speed, didn't work
6. none worked

4 gig memory gskill 1141 mhz 1.92v
maximus formula 475 fsb 1.5v
5870 950/1300 gpu 70c max - asus unlocked bios-

9.11 and 9.12 drivers

I have disabled ati audio and am not usinf afterburner , just oc through ccc and not downloading anything while gaming as i normally dload stuf while playing games. - testing-

evrtime play grey crash or a few days ok then grey crash

uh not like this he asking to post system specs so we have an organised acount. the other thread isnt as organised.

how many people grey crash or gc when somthn is in running in background ?
i notice i am always downloading somthn..eg- movie torents - no not those kind of movies-when i play l4d2 and gc crash.
I am now tesating l4d2 and not dloading when i play.

I have only crashed once with this card and it was while playing Dirt 2, but I don't think it was the vid card, more likely my cpu being too overclocked. I'm sure it won't pass a stress test.

The thing I am noticing with this card, is it takes about 30 seconds for my pc to post. Nothing on the display comes up for about 30 seconds, didn't have this with my 4890 or any other card I've used with this pc. Is that normal for it to take so long?
 
Please keep post similar to each other that way comparison is easier also if you number responses direct comparison is simpler as well

1. Asus P5Q, Q9550, 4gb memory, vista 64
2. no overclock
3. Sporadic.
4. All in celcius: GPU idle: 37 (needed to adjust fans) Load: 65, Core's 37, HD 30, System 32.
5. Disable HDMI sound, Bios flash, driver update, disable MB sound and deletion of aspi32 folders in system registry.
6. Disable HDMI sound reduced frequency. Bios flash didn't do that much. Driver update did nothing. Disable MB sound and deletion of aspi32 folders have made the system stable without crash so far.

Please notice that this error hasnt occured in games or benchmarks, Ive let it run Crysis bench, Heaven bench all night long with no crashes, and played Orange box for hours. Though Heaven bench show some artifacts in the dragon scene.

None, error happens on unlocked or locked 545 phenom II processor

At least 3 times a day

5. Possible fixes that have been tried
What it make it stop was to OC the 2D frecuencies of the card to at least 300core 600mem, last week that frecuency was not enough, got to raise to 400core 900mem. You should make a profile and the locate it under users\local settings\ati or something like this (later Id put the exact dir) and then clic edit, you'd notice 3 main frecuencies and voltage, these seems to be the 3 exact modes of operation the firs says 15700 that the core, change it to 400, do the same for mem.

Fixes i have read with varying results:
dont know how exactly those fixes have worked for others. My card doesnt always shows grey stripes , sometimes it shows artifacts only. Id RMA the card soon, but because Im in Mexico i havent had the time to do it.
