Hello [H]orde and happy holidays to all. Sorry for lurking so long as my son and I have been folding for team 33 for almost a year. I am bitten by the folding bug and just built a new multi-gpu boxen currently with 2x9800GT and a 3rd on the way. My question is what is the current favorite driver version for this set up using Vista64? I am currently using 178.24 and it's pretty stable but ppd will drop significantly (~1000ppd) on one or both gpu's by merely opening a few windows or doing some surfing. This doesn't happen on two other single 8800GT setups I have running the 177.35 drivers using Vista32. I appreciate the info everyone takes the time to share here on the forum and wouldn't have been able to get this far without your help. Fold on!

Anyhow, can't answer your questions, I don't fold on any nvidia hardware, so no help here, sorry..... Just wanted to say welcome to the forums, glad your here!!

I can't say for sure what's better in Vista64, but welcome to the forum. I recall seeing you hitting a milestone or two along the way.

The latest beta driver 180.60 uses a lot less CPU time than the 178.24 drivers but folds a bit slower.

Have you locked the clients to one CPU core or are they set to use any CPU core avalible ??
I find that if they swop CPU cores rthen you get a drop in points, I locked to one core then they stay stable.
You can use the enviromental variable "NV_FAH_CPU_AFFINITY" to lock your clients to one CPU core.

Thanks for the welcome all. I figured any group whose official food/drink is beer & tamales is just my speed.

digital_exhaust - I remember seeing you way up ahead and thinking I would never even be close. GPU folding has helped a lot of noobs like myself gain a lot of points quickly.

Kendrak - it's so cool your wife get's on here and so actively supports your addiction. My wife has supported me through FAH, drag racing, and other bad habits I've had over the years and it sure helps.

Tigerbiten - I have not locked the clients to any core. Xilikon's guide suggested not to lock them so that's what I did. Are most multi-gpu users locking or not locking their clients? Also, I have priority set to slightly higher and run 2 SMP's on the Q6600 if that has any affect on the situation.

I have a goal to try to stay in the [H] top 20 for Avg Ppd provided the utility bills don't get too steep. Gotta go for now...the darn kids are using the PS3 for playing games again and I think the wife has turned on the heater in the house which she might need but my boxen don't!:D
 
I don't lock my cores but I also don't surf with my 2 boxes. I run the 178.24s and a single SMP-mpich client on the box in my sig and one very similar not in my sig. :p
Surfing duty is handled by my notebook running a classic client cpu.

P.S. I bought a PS3 to game on.... let's say thankfully the XBox360 doesn't fold or no gaming at all for me. :eek:
