Possible to force non-widescreen on LCD?

I just got my new 2005fpw and man is it a change... eyes are still adjusting to the brightness and crispness of the text and image. I came from a 930sb so that's saying a lot. Is there any way possible for force black sidebars for games that don't support widescreen? Warcraft3 is stretched pretty badly and I would much rather there be black bars on the side opposed to the image being stretched, so was just curious if there's any way to do this or not.

Read my post in the main Dell 2005fpw thread...

"Now a lot of people have questions about gaming in WideScreen. If the game supports 1680x1050 then no problem. But what if the game only has 1280x1024 resolution? Well the good thing about this monitor is you have 3 options on how you want your non widescreen game to be displayed.

First you go to the Main Menu by pressing the menu button on the dell lcd.

Scroll down to Image Settings and select Scaling.

Here are the 3 choices :

1:1 - which will put black lines instead of stretching the image.

Fill - it will stretch the image to fit the monitor

and Aspect."

many (if not most) do not support widescreen by default.

however, do a search on each game. bfv and farcry, for example, can be played in widescreen with a mild adjustment in either the config file or a dev patch.

Well I told war3 to run 1680x1050 and it seemed to work fine, so i guess i need to go in and set it to something like 1600x1200 and it will just auto adjust? I'll try to find your post.

I'm pretty sure warcraft3 is on the does not support list for widescreen. I can't seem to get the 1:1 to work, so what do I need to set the res to in order for it to do the bars on the sides?

Edit: Got it to work.. I guess 1280x1024 is the max res possible to use on this monitor if you're not going to go widescreen. Hopefully it doesn't look too bad, but I did get it to scale to size correctly.. thanks.

1280x1024 is the max possible if you want the black bars.

Also how is your backlight?

Non-existent. in screensaver mode with a black bg i see no light at all and HL2 levels that are pitch black show none either. I'm very happy with it.. though the blinding whites and crisp text took some getting used to. I had a 930sb and thought it couldnt get any better but boy was i wrong. My crt was blurry as hell compared to this thing.
