Possible to do software raid 0 with 2 drives?

Is it possible to do raid 0 with 2 drives using only software instead of hardware? Will be using XP Pro and will be using 2x 200gb ide drives,

yes, however I do not think that you can install windows on that raid-ed partition.
 
I beleive it is extremely dangerous, certainly more dangerous than $20, the avergage price of a gorund level RAID card. Unless there is a sepcific reasonw hy you cannot do hardware, just buy the card and put your mind at ease.
 
It's no more dangerous than hardware raid. However, unless you've got a specific reason to run raid 0, I'd avoid doing so.

 
Not as the system disk. It will flat out prevent you from doing so.

Dynamic Disks are fucking stupid anyway.
 
I'm sorry I ment raid 1 (mirroring) wasn't thinking when I wrote the post. Someone I know wants to do it and I told its not really worth it. To just get a raid card they arent that much anyway... Just incase I can't change his mind what free software is out there to do raid 1? if any. He basically wants to make backups of his machine(s) with this machine he is setting up with raid 1, and also file storage

Raid 1 is possible with Windows server versions or Linux. There are no third-party products that I know of for Windows to do raid-1.

A cheap controller will do it in the driver, but at least it'll do it. It'd probably only be $20 for one. Keep in mind, though, you get what you pay for.

well, there is a way to do this in windows, and I have done it successfully:

Note that this is a 'hack' if anything and nobody is going to listen to you cry if it breaks your stuff. The only reason I did it was to easily clone a HDD. It is no longer running in RAID-1.
