I'm wondering if its possible to turn images off in posts when you hit the little reply button? Another forum I visit turns off the images when your responding so I'm wonder if you guys can as well (as board software AFAIK). I just ask since for me sometimes theres a pause when responding in a thread with alot of images in it here but not over in the other forum.

If I understand your question correctly, you can do it very easily. When you press the quote button, the original post, including all the tags, are included. What you do is edit out the
tags. After that, use the "Preview Post" button at the bottom to test your post. If you edit out those tags, it will instead place a web link. Also, you can just remove everything from
and place your own little blurb there. Lotsa folks will instead type in something like "[pic]"

Anyway, the "Preview Post" button is your friend. I use it every time I post pics or a really long web link.

No, thats not what I meant. I'm talking about the page of the thread your replying in not quoting a post.

You can turn off images manually in Explorer or just about any browser on a universal setting in Tools > Advanced. I don't think vBull has that option to choose, but I will look in a little while to make sure. :)

Well I know that HTPCnews' forum is using vBull too which is also where I noticed that images don't get loaded when you hit the reply button. Maybe it's just me but I find it kind of annoying to wait for the page to load back up when I try to reply in an image heavy thread. I would also figure it would cut down on your server load.

Server load wouldn't be an issue, as the images aren't hosted by HF.

And I <3 my DSL.

quit using a shitty browser. I haven't used um in a while, but IIRC netscape would load everything and then display it all at once. If thats the problem...stop using netscape...

I can start doing a reply as soon as that part of the page is done, which is how it should be.

People still use Netscape?

I use firefox, and the images load usually one at a time, and I keep having to scroll back to get down to the reply part, and it DOES take a second or two to load the page, especially if the image hoster has a slow server, and/or the images are large. I'm on cable too btw. :p

Yeah thats my problem (DSL and FF here).

Try this:

Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:

1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries: network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows: Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true" Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!

this little hack is slick, i've been using it for awhile, the only problem is that some hosts don't allow you to make that many connections to their site at once from the same IP. If someone has alot of images on one host, it may not actually speed it up.
