Can I swap CPU's without having to reinstall windows? Thinking about swapping my 2.4 for a 3.2.
 
Yeah you could change that without a reinstall, but why not just overclock your 2.4c?
 
Processors = yes (assuming it's just a speed difference)
Motherboards = no
 
Motherboards = yes if it's the same or similar chipset ... there is still the potential for problems though.

Same chipset = no problem.
 
CPU = Yes...

Mobo = you should reinstall... why not just format? its not that hard....
 
Changeing the cpu without changeing anything else is the only upgrade you can do where you need to change nothing else.

Swapping you CPU doesn't require any changes to the OS, unless you are change to a HT CPU from one that isn't.

You can change 99.9% of all hardware and keep the same OS. Depending on the change you may need to run sysprep or repair the install after the change and before the reboot. In a corporate environment I have one image for all machines, laptop and desktops.
