Ok I have a very strange issue. I have 8 gigs of ram installed in my computer. (windows 7, 64 bit).

"My Computer" Shows that I have 8 gigs installed

Task manager shows I only have 4.

What on earth would be causing this?
 
did both, nothing changed. I am looking into doing a clean install of windows 7 but don't remember how to reactivate after the clean install.
 
Hit "Activate" on the System screen in Windows?

Do you have a spare hard drive? if so, install Windows 7 in trial mode on that hard drive to see if the issue still occur.

Also, are you sure you have the 64bit version of Windows 7?

Oh and in your motherboard's BIOs, look for a feature called "memory remap" or something along those lines and enable it.

Has this issue always occured with this system?

No I do not. Just used my last spare drive for my adobe products

Yes it has been the 64 bit version since I built the computer about 3 years ago

Edit... I just read check you mobo's Bios -_- lol sorry

If you have a retail key, you should be fine with the number of activations.
If you have an OEM key, as long as you have virtually the same setup you had with those two other re-installs, you should be fine. At worst, you just have to make a phonecall to Microsoft and explain your situation.

Also, reset CMOS if all else fails.
 
On a sneaking suspicion, I unplugged and took everything out minus the core and put everything back in. This time around the ram showed up. I am assuming that after my first reseat they did not get pushed in all the way.

Edit: Task manager is now fixed and everythign is good. However now I kinda want to do a reinstall to clean up the system. Had a bad bug on the computer about a month ago. My systems caught it and removed it but ever since then I have been having a monitor issue. Maybe my graphics card is starting to fail.
