Modding a PSU.... not the smartest thing, eh?

nonetheless, the switch on the back of all psu's are really lame...

so.. i was thinking, could you replace the switch on a regular psu (say antec 550W, for example) with one of these: http://www.frozencpu.com/ele-141.html ?

has anybody done it if it is possible?

thanks...

I'm sure you could. The question would be why. Pretty pointless as you never see it and fairly easy to accidentally shut off the computer.

I duhno.... just looking for something new to do

i just don't know if the switch could handle the amps/voltage of the psu switch....

it just looks fancy really :D

is 120V going thru the switch?

would they really put all the voltage from the outlet (from wall) thru the switch?

or maybe just a transistor of some type (i know nothing of electronics, but i have the basic concept :p)

lol just trying to make this a possibility

120V really does go through the switch on the back of a PSU. Yes.

Make sure it can handle the power without frying, causing a short, burning out a circuit breaker, which leads to your house setting on fire, then the entire city block, which creates an inferno which devours your city, creating massive smoke clouds that cause global warming, which leads to eternal darkness where ninjas are free to roam.

or it might just not work.

lmao...

that's why i'm making sure it'll work (hence this thread)
wouldn't want ninjas roaming around here, now would we...

out to devour our children and such

Would you prefer a power switch that's shockingly exciting?

I wouldn't let a switch handle high voltage or amps unless it was UL or CSA approved for those volts (120VAC in some countries, 240VAC in most of the world) and amps (probably 10A for 120VAC, 5A for 240VAC). Also that toggle switch seems to be designed to fit inside a round hole rather than the usual rectangular one, meaning it could rotate and short out against something inside, no matter how much you tighten its nut. Most of those switches have a groove or flat machined on one side to prevent that rotation, but it works only when installed in a hole with matching keys, meaning you'll have to either punch the hole (punches are $$$) or saw it to just the right size and shape. Then there could be the matter of room -- that thing sticks in a lot more than the common rocker switch found on the backs of some PSUs.
