Possible Problem With My Processor

Hello,

I recently upgraded my computer with a new motherboard and a videocard. Once I installed everything my comp seemed to be running a little slow for some reason, so I ran some tests and found out my processor (P4 2.0ghz) was running at about 25% of what it should've been. I was planning on getting a new processor in the future but because of the current problem, I decided to get one much earlier. Once I got it, I installed it and I came to the conclusion that it didn't work properly so I sent it back. Basically, once I installed the new processor (P4 2.8ghz hyperthreading) there would be no display on the monitor. My first fear was that my videocard screwed up somehow so I used various other cards but still the same problem occured. I changed back to my old processor and the display came on like it always used to. But now my comp will sometimes lose display but still keep running without any shutdown. I really think it is the processor because of my past tests I've ran but could there be any other problems whatsoever? I don't want to get stuck with another processor that I think is broken but instead there is something wrong with my system. I have installed everything correctly and have had other people look at my system and have agreed that it is setup the right way. So I'm 100% sure it's not that. I have all the updates of everything on my comp as well. So I'm up to date with everything like that.

Also my power supply is 480 watts and only about 1 week old, so I'm pretty darn sure it's not that.

System Specs:
Motherboard-Gigabyte P4 Titan Ga-8vt800(-L)
Video Card-Saphire ATI Radeon 9800 128MB Pro
RAM-1024mb
Processor-P4 2.0ghz (until my new one comes in)

So again, I'm asking is this probably the problem of my processor, or could it be something else that I may be overlooking?
Thanks a ton.
