(Possible) Problem with ASUS P8P67 Front Audio

I have the P8P67 mobo (not the deluxe or whatever version), and a Silverstone TJ09 case.

The problem is, my front panel audio works very inconsistently. It randomly recognizes and loses the headphones. If i move slightly the connection may be lost, and some times I may move far from the pc, and it stays connected. Turning the jack in the plug, sometimes has no effect, other times connects/disconnects the headphones.

I am pretty sure it's not my headphones' problem (I have tried them on another computer, my cell phone, and my speakers, and no matter what I did they would not lose the connection).

What I don't know, is if this is the mobo's fault or the case's. I have been using this motherboard for one and a half years, and the problem appeared only a couple of months ago, only for the microphone. I thought it was the headphones (the mics usually die), so I ignored it. Then I started losing the connection to the (headphones' ) speakers too, and the problem appeared much more frequently.

I have had the case for 5 years and some months, without any problem, and I don't think it's the case's fault. I opened it up, removed and reconnected the front panel to the HD Audio jumpers on the mobo, and checked the cables, but they seem fine.

I haven't tried to reinstall the realtek drivers, as I've read online it doesn't solve anything.

Any ideas?

PS The headphones are the Plantronics Gamecom 377 and the jacks seem gold plated, although I'm pretty sure they're not. Running win 7, and have the latest BIOS and realtek drivers.

It sounds like a bad cable and/or set of front jacks to me. The part about wiggling things or rotating the plug in the jack is pretty condemning evidence for it being an issue with the jack or possibly the cable. The fact that the microphone stopped working earlier is one more finger pointing at the little PCB in the case with the jacks having gone bad. If the motherboard were at fault, you'd expect it to either work or not work, and it might take several boot cycles before you change from one status to the other.

Not sure if you'll be able to find that part anymore at 5 years on, but you could hit a site like Monoprice and just get some cheap extension cables to run from the back ports. It's a somewhat inelegant solution, but it's cheap and effective. Seems like a waste to get a new case just for the front ports starting to go out.

Aha, thank you for the fast reply. I was at first thinking it was the case's fault, but I read the same problem with the same motherboard somewhere else, so I was hoping it wasn't the case. I think I'm gonna tape some cable to the side of the case :/

Thanks very much!
