so recently i put my overclock back on cause winter weather is starting to set in. ive run prime 95 for hours with no fail and linx test multiple times with no fail but im still getting instability. every once in a while the my computer will freeze up but the sound will continue. the screens will refresh a lot and my mouse will lag a lot. the only way to fix it is to restart my computer. now i just realized this now but is the overclock of my processor making my video card unstable? or would it be making the pci-e slot run improperly? is there any way to fix this or make the video card run more stable so i don't have to restart all the time?

try increasing the cpu voltage a tad to see if it solves the problem. the voltage might be fluctuating a bit causing it to because unstable when not under full load. i have that problem with my system. every once in a while it will lag like hell because the voltage will drop from 1.49 to 1.48v then goes back to 1.49v. just that .01v change causes all the problems for me.

bumped it up a tad and so far so good. last time it happened on netflix, but i dont feel in the mood to watch something right now. ill test that aspect later

When running Prime95, are you running blend, small, or large FFT?

It's entirely possible that your CPU is stable but your memory is not. Also, make sure you do lock your PCIe freq at 100 and, if possible, your PCI at 33.

I suggest running memtest to test out your ram.

ok i just had another crash while playing splintercell conviction.

BSOD code
BCCode: 116

im going to try mem test again and see if anything changes

any other thoughts?

Going out on a limb, have you updated your video drivers lately? and what are you video temps like? reason I ask is because BCCode: 116 is supposedly a video driver issue.

You mentioned Netflix. That problem may be on their side. I have watched movies in the past and for no reason at all, my pc shut down on its own. I would place the Netflix shotdown on them.

im still using 10.4 because i like how it idles compared to the newer drivers. its not overheating when im playing games or watching netflix. when i left my house (at school now) i started mem test. it would freeze on version 3.5 so i ran version 3.4 and it was running fine when i left. up to about 10% done with no fail yet.

i keep wondering if it has to do with my motherboard considering it is almost the cheapest gigabyte mobo. maybe the pcie slot is shorting out? (i have it locked on 100)

also i have no crash issues or any blue screens when i'm running at stock speeds

ok mem test failed.. is there anything that i should post from the results that will tell me anything about the error?

Edit:

kk i fixed it. i re-checked the Bios and saw that memory was still set to run as turbo which i must have forgot to change when i over clocked the pc this time around. after i changed it to run at standard, i let memtest run till about 90% complete when i had to stop it to finish an essay.
i hope that fixes the problem
