Here's my setup:
Asus A8V Deluxe WiFi edition
Athlon64 3500+ (2.2Ghz)
2x512MB corsair DDR400 2-3-2-6
2x 74GB raptor
300GB SATA seagate
80GB PATA WD
a cd burner & a dvd burner
gefore 6800 ultra OC
Antec True Power 550
Creative X-fi music
The problem I'm having is that every now and then, I'll get a pop up warning saying my graphics card has detected that not enough power is being given to it, so it is underclocking itself to prevent problems. Now this card has 2 separate power lines going into it. When this first started happening I removed all other devices from the two power lines (cd burners, hard drvies, even fans). So both lines are clear of anything else. I don't know if they're independant lines, I don't know if this PS even has 2 independant 12V lnies.
Well I instaled motherboard monitor 5 to see what's going on. I think I have the correct chipset, but the readings seem off. The temperature and fans reading seem correct, but not the voltages. I have the Winbond W83627THF-A selected and the readings I'm getting are:
core0 1.58
core1 3.02 (I have no idea why it reads a second core)
+3.3 3.33V
+5 5.03V
+12 16.32V
-12 0.00V
-5 0.00V
Now if I choose msi 848p neo as the configuration instead the reading I get are:
core0: 1.58V
core1: 3.02V
+3.3: 3.34V
+5: 5.03V
+12: 12.00V
-12: -178.60
-5: -6.7V
The msi 848p neo configuration is the only one showing the 12V line at 12V. Some of the other selections show the line as haveing 11.45V, and the Asus P4C800 E Deluxe settings shows 12.18V, all other readings are the same as above, except core 1 is at 0.0V.
Now from what I can find, the top one I listed here, the winbond W83627THF-A is the correct setting for my motherboard, but if that's the case, those 12V line readings concern me.
In any event, I have the gimps program and F@H running constantly on this PC, and it's completely stable for weeks. I have seen the problem pop up while playing World of Warcraft, but I've also come back to my computer and had the message popped up. I'm at a loss as to why the video card reports under voltages. It doesn't seem to happen very often. I sat here one weekend for 6-8 hours coding and gaming straight with absolutely no signs of any problem. Another day I sat here surfing the web and had the message pop up 4 times in an hour.
Now, I have been thinking of going to 2GB ram plus an Opteron 165, and I'm really concerned that the added stress will exacerbate my problem here.
