Possible Norco ss-500 Modification..Thoughts?

Just looking for some opinions to make sure im on the right track here.

I currently own a no name case which has two norco ss-500's in it - these have 2 x 80mm scythe quiet/high flow fans but are still noisy to me given the servers location.

Ive purchased a Norco rpc-450 and the plan is to move the ss-500's into it as with the motherboard installed im not sure if I will be able to access the bottom two hard disks in the stock enclosures - further from what I have read the new rpc-450 has a mid fan board (although Im yet to confirm this) with 4 x 80mm (which Ill fix to 3 x 120mms).

So im thinking that If I can pull off the 120mm fan conversion on the mid board I could cut the 70% off the back plate of the ss-500 and use the mid plane fans to draw the air through (keeping it quieter).

Will this work?
