I couldn't find an actual section for dial-up modems, so I posted this in the general section.
I'm working on a Dell computer that will not connect to AOL. The machine is using AOL 9.0, but the modem won't connect. It will dial but cannot connect to the network, it freezes at the step called "Requesting Network Attention". I thought that it was a hardware problem with the modem, so I swaped the modem out for a new one. The computer now BSODS after XP tries to auto install drivers. The modem I'm trying to put in is a generic modem of the same brand as the one that came in the computer. I have had suggestions from other people that it could be a virus interfering with the connection, but I've never heard of one that does this. If anyone has any ideas, please contact me. Thanks.
