Possible defective Sapphire 5970

Hi guys just got my new 5970 today and after installing the 8.663.1 beta drivers the system will freeze and sometimes I get the ATI driver stopped responding and has recovered error. The card also wants to keep my monitor resolution at 1900X1080 with 25i hz refresh, when I go to set it to it's native 1900X1200 60hz resolution it freezes immediately. The 5870 I had in before worked great and I had very little problems with it so right now I'm doing a full reformat because I don't know what else to do.

you're using the drivers on the special AMD page for the 5970 series...right?

edit: ok I just saw you changed the driver version number in your first post, you cheeky monkey

Make sure your connections are tight, and you could also try reseating the video card. A reformat has definitely saved my pc a few times. Good luck.
