Well i'm in about the worst situation ever. I built 5 boxes for friends going off to college. All of them exactly the same.

Asus a8v deluxe wifi edition *rev 1* :(
athlon fx-53 939 cpu
evga 6800GT
2x512 corsair 3200xl pro
audigy 2 plat
nec 2510a
2x200 WD sata drives
and a Leaktek WinTV expert....

Anyway, 4 of the boxes have been flawless, but one i've lost all patience on. It works flawlessly on and off, and then goes into spurts where it might as well be a paper weight....

What its doing can be a laundry list of things

It use to just freeze and discolor slightly, then bootup sometimes with a discolored asus logo and have to be turned off for awhile
Recently it developed this .... just randomly restart thing.... doesnt really matter what you are doing.... he just restarts
and most recent is the coolest.... it bogs down, hangs for awhile, the monitor flickers out... then it comes back and is fine for a few seconds... bogs down, and repeats cycle... eventually leading to a freeze.

The box is like a sports car and runs HL2/Doom3/Anything perfect when it wants to work, then completely craps out later.

I've already RMA'd/reinstalled Ram, Motherboard, Harddrives. I've switched out the graphics card as well as removed soundcard. In any setup ive tried, problems still exist. Pretty much the only thing i havent switched/rma'd is the FX-53.... i guess what im getting at is has ANYONE seen ANYTHING remotely close to whats happening.... and what was there solution? I've been fighting this computer for several months now... and ive almost lost hope.... any help would be appreciated.

Somethings i figured i should add....

Temps are always fine, sub 50 even under full load
It also causes corrupted data after lockups... i believe tonight it deleted some windows system files, thus no longer boots.... but ill format him again in the morning and start playing.

perhaps check power supply, only thing thing i could think of . check voltage with voltmeter because a bad power supply can cause all the symptoms you describe. well, off to workhttp://www.hardforum.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1027132545#

what type of PSU? Also, when you swapped memory, did you ever check it (like through an overnight memtest86 test)? Although the freezing and discoloring sounds like a symptom of a dying videocard. Does it exhibit these problems with other (less power hungry) videocards?

On an enermax 470watt noisetaker (originally what was in there) and on the 350 generic that came with the centurion 5, it acts exactly the same

Yep.... it passed, but i still got it RMA'd and had new sticks... the ram in the computer is about a week out of packing now :p

Yep, does exactly the same thing with my MX440 :p

I don't imagine you've got any of those other four systems laying around you could swap the processor out of to see if the problem moves, do you? That would be asure fire way to know if it was indeed the proc.

Ax

yeah well... this post was a last ditch effort before that step. This weekend i will probably sacrafice my perfectly working box to the Gods and switch them out, but as of now we are trying to avoid that

If the setup exhibits the same problems with an array of known working videocards. I'd say perhaps the mobo is at fault.

i think he said he rma'd the mobo though.. the possibility of two dead mobo's is kinda slim ;)

my guess would be the cpu, though it really does sound like a video card problem of some sort..

oh, I thought the rma only applied to the memory. If he rma'd the mobo arleady, then try a different proc.

But I still stand by my videocard hypothesis.

agreed.. though it might be the agp slot on the motherboard if he swapped out the video card.. *shrug*
maybe one thing died and took a bunch of stuff with it. :(

ive gotten a new set of ram, new mobo, new harddrives..... graphics cards ive swaped to 3 different ones now.... the only part left is proc.... and i guess if problems this crazy could be related.... ill go ahead and RMA :/

I'm guessing you have, but have you tried running it out of the case?
