Ok..I installed AS5, and I discussed it with the person who's computer I'm building, and we decided there was too little on it (going by the arctic silver 5 website). I added more, and started to pull the tube out (as the stupid thing keeps going unless you pull it back), and went too far. The tube came apart, and the resulting force of pulling made the tip of the AS 5 injector push into the stuff that was already on the CPU. I didn't hit the cpu or anything, and didn't cause any damage to any parts, but the arctic silver was spread a bit and not quite centered and perfect. We decided to go ahead and put the HSF on anyway, as it didnt look that bad and we figured hte seal was fine.

If this was my computer I wouldn't give a damn, but this is for a friend, so I need to know if it would be better to just clean it off and start over again.

how much are you talking about here?

I've seen different people apply it different ways for what they think works..some people put a small bit in the center then put the HSF on, other put it in the center and then spread it out around the entire surface of the IHS....now, if the processor doesn't have an IHS i would probably try to clean it up a bit, but unless you have like a thick layer on the entire IHS I wouldn't worry about it to much. Sometimes when you put to much on it counter acts the effects, but you would need to put a shit load on there.
