Porting sub on z-640s

I was thinking of getting a hole saw and a port thingy to make a port on the side of the sub for my z640s. Would this increase or decrease the quality, deepness, and loadness of the bass? The sub for my older speakers sounded much louder, it had 2 ports on the front, but had an annoying air woosh noise when it was put too loud. Maybe because the ports were like 1.5" each.
 
I wouldn't do this... A ported enclosure should be bigger than a sealed box. There is a lot to putting a port in too. You could get off-pitch bass, whisteling in some cases if you don't have the port just right (dimension-wise)

If you want more bass, think about the Z680's or some nice Klipsch...
 
Don't do it, you'll most likely ruin it. Sub boxes are a lot more than just a simple playwood box with an amp and driver in it, each box is specifically tuned for the driver [or, should be at least] Ported subs are designed in a certain way, as are non-ported subs. non-ported subs work off the fact that the internal air provides back pressure for the driver as it oscillates, and without that sealed box, you'll most likely be bottoming your driver, which ruins subs in a real hurry.

Yeah, what I had in mind but lacked the technical know-how to explain :p
(Kinda a cheap "I knew that")

Before I got a sub for my car, I thought that you could just drop a sub in a bigger box like my Klipsch 2.1 sub and it would magically make "more bass". WRONG....
