I'm trying to find the best solution for storing my video files that I occasionally take with me to a friends house or other location.

I have been looking at the TowerRAID TR4UTP and TR5UTP from Sans Digital. Reviews for these kinds of boxes always seem mixed though. I would also prefer a solution that let me use cheep consumer level drives instead of expensive RAID/Enterprise drives.

I prefer things well made even if I have to assemble it. I don't mind making a Linux box or anything like that if it is the best way to achieve what I want at a good price. Currently 2TB consumer drives are going for about $90 so I would like to use 4-5 of those unless it is truly inadvisable to use non RAID drives.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

That looks promising. The reviews show success with consumer level drives which is nice. I'll consider it. Thanks.

I would still appreciate further feedback.

That 4 drive Areca has nice reviews. It's exspensive though. hmm Wonder if that makes the Areca the real deal and the other boxes out there cheep crap.
