Portable N64

that's absolutely fantastic! what a mod.

and i thought i was clever for cutting more holes in my motherboard tray for cable management. how very, very wrong i was. :D

Nice mod! I wish I could make stuff like that!

I wonder if we'll ever see portable PS3's and such in the future...

Ingenious design, reminds me of another modder that placed a wii inside a classic NES case.

There has already been a portable PS3 and 360.
In the form of a laptop.

It was on hardocp frontpage about a year ago.

Saw this earlier in the morning, pure awesome. This is what the DS should have been years ago.

the ds is more powerful than the n64 unless i am terribly mistaken

I think they're about the same. The DS have to render two screen, while the n64 only has one, but I think the n64 looks better. Then again, this is judging from nostalgic eyes :D.

Portable N64

Isn't it called a DS ?

Exactly what I was thinking. While the hardware isn't the same (N64 is MIPS-based, with an SGI-designed graphics chip), the capabilities are similar.

The only thing the DS loses over the N64 is in texture filtering and the hard per-scene triangle limit.

But I will tip my hat to the maker of this beauty - that took a lot of love.

that is some SERIOUS work on all the wiring inside and cutting down the board size, amazing....

im really good at soldering, but im almost sweating just looking at those pics of all the wires coming off of those chips LOL

Wow, it must have given him quite the work to do something like that. It could look like something being sold right now as it seems professionally built. I couldn't do that

It doesn't seem the same with the C buttons being a stick instead of the 4 buttons. It does look pretty cool though.

Very nicely done :) I doubt that anyone will miss the three-prong controller design :p

As for a PS3/X360 version... yes, the HW for those consoles will have to shrink a lot more for it to fit in something that is truly portable. Don't forget that the main PCB in these consoles are along the size of a full ATX board :)
