Is open better or Closes?

Sennheiser PX100 or Sennheiser PX200?

Please help me choose thanks!

It depends on your application; you will be better off with closed phones if you're in a loud environment where you don't want to hear the noise. Open phones are good for walking around in so you can hear traffic etc, or places where you might need to hear the phone ring or whatever.

The other issue to look at is on-ear versus around-ear. This is just what it sounds like; do the phones sit directly on your ear, or do they rest on the skull around the ear? Try a few pairs of each on, and decide which you like better. This may be called supra-aural versus circumaural respectively.

In any case, the best way to decide is to bring a source (cd player, ipod, what have you) to a place with headphones that they'll let you try on. Then find some that fit nicely and sound good to you. Don't listen to the salesman, listen to the headphones.

HAHA. That question is 110% subjective.

That's like me asking what is the better sports car, the red one or the yellow one ^_^.

Anyway, if all else is equal, I would vote for the open because it lets air in and out, which will keep your ears cooler and as a result you might not get as much of a "swamp effect".

As always though, go and try them on and listen to them and see for yourself.

~Hope this helps

Not quite, open headphones generally sound better than closed headphones. In an open headphone, there is less redirection of sound inside the enclosure. Probably why some people do the blu-tak mod on their closed cans?

Have you used either of the PX100/200s? I have not, so I will not comment, but Headroom seems to like the PX100 more:

I was'nt touching upon sound quality, but rather the prefrence between open and closed with respect to things like isolation.

If that made no sense, basically I was just saying some people want to be isolated from their surroundings, and others don't need it.

You are right though, most times you get a diffrent sound from open just because of the spaciousness. It sounds less "in your ear."

Nope :)

Ok, I just wanted to clarify, as I did not get that impression from your analogy of the two different colored sports cars.

The PX200 is a supra-aural headphone (rests on-ear), so it probably won't provide much isolation. If you want isolation, then you'd want canalphones or sealed circumaural headphones (like the Senn 280s).
