i'm in the market for some new headphones and i'm looking at around $50 i've got to spend. currently i've only been looking at the sennheiser hd497s, i hear they're amazing. i will use these mostly with my mp3 player when i go skateboarding, so the headphones should be lightweight and portable. i'll use them with my cd player for car rides, so comfort is also a must. they will also be used for gaming every once in a while, if that matters. how portable are the 497s? anyone have other suggestions around $50?

Go for 497's. They're about as big as Sony's mainstream CD series headphones, only more comfortable. The actual two phones are about 3-4 inches across, in an oblong shape. Very good phones though. I own the 477's and there the same size, only mine don't reproduce high's as well as the 497s...

I was given a pair of PX-200s (Sennheisers) as a gift. They may not be the best sounding, but they're not bad. They're fairly punchy and are good enough for when I carry my MP3 player around. They fold up well and come with a pretty nice hard case, which is really handy.

The PX-100s I think get better reviews (as they should) but the closed 200s are more suitable for most public places because not everyone wants to listen to Led Zeppelin or whatever as much as I do at the moment.

how comfortable are they?
I have no problems with them, they're light and sit firmly without exerting too much pressure.

They're not as comfortable as Senn HD 5xx or 6xx headphones or my 15 yr old sonys (the only Sony cans I'll ever love, but they're falling apart :()... but I've listened to them for several hours during a train ride from my home to Washington DC (and back) when I went on a trip and they didn't bother me.
