No idea where to put this but anyway, recently I switched from DSL to Cable internet service. Now I get port scanned at least 20 times a day. Looking at my logs, it looks like almost every entry is scannig ports 2745, 1025, 80, 3127, and 6129...with a few different ones every once in a while. I'm a little confused as to why all of a sudden this happens so often. When I had DSL it would happen maybe a couple times a week...now it's 20 times a day. Getting pretty annoying. Any ideas why this is happening and should I be worried about it?
 
1) The Networking forum wasn't a dead giveaway for where this goes?

2) Buy a cable / DSL router....problem solved.

Pardon me your highness...;). You didn't really answer my question...so I'll go post it in the correct place now. Thx.
 
1 - Some cable companies send keep alive at regular intravels.
2 - You are now on a shared network. Your DSL was a private connection between you and your provider. The ISPs will filter some of this. But, on cable a group of people are on something similar to a subnet. So if someone is port scanning on your "subnet", then they can't filter it before it gets to their network.

Why do you care?

Attacks don't matter unless they get through. Or unless your attacker is the Blight (in which case... they'll get through).

I definitely did answer your question. And others confirmed my answer. Get a router, and then don't worry about it.

Like the NBA commercial's say: Reading IS FUNdamental.
 
How does port scanning hurt you and why do you want to stop it? If you don't have anything open on those ports then don't worry about it. It's probably some bot looking for open proxies or infected systems or something.
