Ok, I finished my first real case mod. (Yea, I guess a cold cathode doesn't count)

Go to ElectricPorsche.com and click on the "PC Case" button to see it.

Enjoy it and all of it's classy good looks! ;)

simple yet clean and effective, i like :)

welcome to the [H]

you'll see modding is addicing... wont be long till you do your next mod to it hehe :)

If you've got IM, talk to me about the controller and batteries for the conversion. I may be able to help you.

looks really clean and nice, but would look even better without the pre-mod window

i can totally see it with like a porsche 911 cut out silloutte window, and a small rounded rectangle below it with the porsche sticker

or something similar

if that didnt make any sense, i can make a trip to photoshop to elaborate

Yea, I fully understand what you mean. Unfortunately the case with this stunning paint job is only available with the standard window. My painting skills are.....limited at best, so though I planned to make my own window, in order to get the glossy case I had to go for the prefab.

nice work man. id look even better if the inside was painted aswell.

Nice case man, good clean work.

Maybe a ignition start up. Of course with a Porshe key =)

awesome. my dad owns a couple 914's so i have a soft spot for porsches.

and i have to ask, why exchange a porsche engine with an electric one?

Dude I thought the website was only about the case as I clicked the "electric porsche" link. And I thought to myself, and elctric porsche...WHAT A GREAT IDEA!...

And that turns out to be Exactly what your site is about! I love the case, and the idea of an electric porsche. (go for a dead 911 though, should be alot lighter than a 944).

You might should post in the cars forum about the whole electric porsche idea. :)

The key mod - this was actually the first thing I planned, but I realized I wouldn't be able to close the door with the key in, and I'd probably lose it if I had to remove it everytime. If I had no door, I definately would have.

As for exchanging a Porsche engine for an electric one - I would ONLY do an electric conversion on an already engineless car. The idea is to bring a Porsche back into service that was on the brink, not to desecrate a sacred mint auto. And if your dad has an engineless 914 he wants to donate to the cause let me know. :D

And thank you very much Braidman. Trust me, if I find an engineless 911 in my pricerange instead of a 924/44/14 god himself wouldn't be able to stop me from using it. Unfortunately, being in high school has some draw backs...but what I lack in money I make up for in time!

definately keep us posted on that ;)

hrmm... you need some carputer action in that baby :D

Very clean case - the only other thing I would do would be to paint the frame something other than that dirty grey, like a matching red, gold, or black; or any combination of those three. Good job!

that would be kinda hard to paint. getting it nice and stuff. you would have to remove everything in side. take all the wires out. just a pain. besides it wouldnt look that great all red. you have to leave different colors in there to give it its look.

I agree... after thinking about it some, I think a basic satin black would look the best if he were going to paint the frame. I would probably sand that black down with some 600 grit, then 1000 grit, then 1500 grit, and then a few coats of clear to match the glossy finish of the exterior.

-SEAL

Hmmm, maybe I will paint it. I don't really have any expereince with it though, I'd hate to ruin my baby in an effort to get it to look better.....

I'll have to think about it.

-Jeff

Go for it.

There is no painting mistake that can't be fixed with sandpaper. And if you do somehow get it FUBAR, pick up a plain Dragon for $30 and hang your painted side panels, top and faceplate on it.

painting the inside is a pain. u have to take out all of the wires. all of the cdrom slots etc. just a pain. it looks tight as is. just put some neons in there and it will look sweet.

jw how long did it take you to figure out how to do the case?

Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to look into an inside paint.

It took me about a week to get a firm idea of what I wanted the Porsche case to look like - the only thing I was sure of in the beginning was the Porsche hood emblem in the case badge position.

RE: Key mod

Well, I actually have done this already in Christine and it isn't that hard to do.

The ignition is from a 1958 plymouth fury since that is what car I was modding my pc into, but all you need is a momentary switch, and that is what a key would be....

It's a nice tribute mod, really it is. As a car mod though, it isn't :)

It's more of a porsche themed pc.

This is a porsche pc case I had done

Yes, this is before the MOBO is installed but it is wide enough to allow a Micro ATX mobo if I wanted, and is high enough to allow a fullblown agp Card if wanted.

Wow, that's some very impressive work!

And yea, it's not really a full mod persay, but I still like it.

sounds like someone isnt really much of a modder ;)

modding takes effort, and time
its not a pain if it turns out looking a lot better than before, which painting the interior black would make this mod downright 25% or more better

the more mods done (depending), the quality of mod, the better a stock case looks

well, I don't cower in the face of a mod, I'm just worried about how it'll turn out. I can picture the black somewhat, but I'm just not sure how well I can pull it off. Should it be more of a matte or glossy finish?

-Jeff

painting a frame is very forgiving, even if you make mistakes, they'll be inside and not as visable as if you made a mistake on the outside

if you go with glossy and put cathodes in, they will reflect nicely and give it more spread out glow

if you go with matte, the cathodes will be more concentrated in the general area they're placed

u want the outside a glossy finish. you want the inside more of a pale finish.

it depends on what person is doing the modding. if the person knows he wont do sucha a good job then he wont touch it. if he does know hell do a good job then hell totally trip it out. it depends on the person.
