Popping sounds

I have onboard sound (Realtek AC '97) and usually when i'm listening to music, I hear random popping sounds. I've tried iTunes, Winamp, and Windows Media Player, and it doesn't seem to be a software problem.

It doesn't happen too often, but I'm aware of them everytime it happens and it gets a little irritating.

Does anyone know what are common causes of popping sounds?
 
Are those pop's tied to some other system event?
Like say moving the mouse?

No, I don't think so. Usually I'd be sitting and listening to a podcast or music (not touching anything) and I'd just hear popping sounds out of nowhere.

They aren't very loud, but they aren't faint and "unnoticeable" either.

yep. i usually keep it on my desk to charge. :(. I tried turning it off to see if it would help, but I still hear them.
 
Yay, I think I fixed it. I installed the latest drivers from Realtek (released yesterday in fact) and I don't hear any more popping noises. Maybe....

I'll check back in a few days to see if it really went away.
