I have one and haven't put a hard drive in it yet since the only PATA drive I have is in my linux box as the OS drive, I'm going to have to buy one from somebody on here but it works pretty well for HD playback but the menu is really too slow.

Don't own one personally but i know it's pretty popular, many people at this sub-forum seem to like them.

Oh yea, welcome to the forums :)

I got sick of dealing with my linux PC for playback. It just wasn't working out very well for 1080p content even with a core 2 E6400 running around 2.5Ghz so I had to either upgrade that box or switch to windows when I came across the popcornhour and I'm really glad I chose to go with that so far. Some of the Planet Earth 1080p rips have a SMALL stutter in video playback every so often but all my other mkvs play flawlessly so I'm happy with it. I just wish it had faster networking, eSATA or firewire and faster menu's.

the faster menu's part won't be happening until the developers refine things in the software which honestly could be a good 6mnths.

Hardware could be quite a wait because they seem to be pretty slow with getting hardware out so no telling when those new models will be around.

reading around the NMT forum it sounds like they think of the USB drives more of a playback only type medium so I'm not going to hold my breathe for ESATA. What I think I'll end up doing is buying a drive case that has eSATA and USB and using that. The currently model without SATA support seriously limits internal storage but I'll just pop in a 250Gb or 320Gb drive and use it more for downloading things since they seem to have good torrent and nzbget support. I currently have a 500Gb USB drive hooked to it filled with TV shows and like 1.5Tb of stuff between my linux box and main desktop.

network access seems to have some pretty bad response times at times and I have some disappearing network drives from time to time but that should be fixed in the upcoming firmware release.
