You mean the Popcorn Hour boxes? Which one are you asking about? I have the A400. Its the new one that just came out. There were a lot of bugs on release and they have patched them but I love it, it plays EVERYTHING!

Works well with a NAS, can play files from Samba shares with ZERO problems! Its also small and you can use a Harmony Remote with it if you want.

You can store a HDD inside of it for apps or play your media from that. HDD is not required for it to work, you can install apps on a thumb drive of SD card. You can install programs like Sickbeard/Couchpotato/sabnzbd on it for total autonomy.
 
I have been reading a bit about the A400. Have you (or anyone) been experiencing the issues with subtitles?
