Yeah so I spent all day yesterday modding my case. I covered every wire in my PC with blue UV techflex. This involved lots of cutting and splicing on my power supply cables.

Anyway, I went from having 3 cold cathodes previously to having 5 now. Here's what happened.

One of the inverters I had was one of those kind that are not in the little blue case, but what looks like a circuit board with heat shrink of some kind on it.. The bottom of the circuit board is exposed, though, so you can see all the solder points, etc.

Well when I went to fire the PC up for the first time last night..... "POP!!" .. "fuck!"

One of the resistors on the inverter exploded.. I had 2 of these inverters, I think what happened is, I was in such a rush to get it started up, I didn't bother making sure that those two inverters weren't touching eachother on the bottom, and I guess they were -=doh=-

the PC is ok though, the other inverter is ok, the one that exploded is in the trash.. Just need to find a new inverter and all will be good. Scared the shit out of me though. Anyone else have anything like this happen to them before?

I haven't had anything like that yet...

Was it loud? I would have been nervous as hell!

Glad everything is ok! ;)

Yeah it was loud as hell. It happened at like 2 a.m. and it sounded like someone lit a Black Cat and threw it in my computer. Freaked me out!

I had an LCD controller shock the f*ck out of me. ended up killing the controller though :(

i've done that twice, it actually was the cathode in my case. plugged it into 2 dif inverters.

and it is *loud*

Inverters don't like having the positive and negative from teh power supply reversed either. I had two inverters and two different switch connections. what I failed to notice was the polarity on the plugs were different.

The cap looks like its bottom melted out, but all the other components appear fine. I haven't replaced it yet to see if it still works.

Yes, yes it is loud. Loud and "OH DEAR GOD NOT MY BABY!!!!" frightening. :D

i had a inverter that i had out of its casing... i wired it up turned on the pc and the capacitor shot at my head and being stunned, i dropped the inverter(doing high voltage fireworks) on my motherboard.. my friend killed the power fast and while he was overracting he cut both the tube and the supply wires from the inverter... it quite literaly sounded like a gun going off... it missed my eye by less then 1-2 cm and left a bleeding bee sting-like welt on my head

if flecom happens to drop by this thread, remember to ask him about his story of his generic psu out of the case it came in.... the caps exploded... reallie funny :D :D :D
