I really wasnt expecting this from yate loons, but they all decided to go bad on the same day. I came back from spending the night at a friends house, turned my computer on and it started making a grinding noise. Right as i took the case door off, the rear exhaust fan chucked two of its blades out of the computer. the other two have bearing problems id assume, its not as bad as the other one, but its noticeable. I replaced the rear one with a scythe ultra kaze 3000rpb fan, but i cant afford to replace the others.

I just wasnt expecting this from yate loon.

That's just weird, I've never heard of a problem like that ... with any fans, for that matter, not just Yate Loons.

Is it possible something got stuck in the blades, causing said damage?

nah, the blades were fine, thats originally what i thought the problem was, because its happened before ( without the whole fan blades flying at my face)

My two from last year are starting to make clicking noises on and off. One is worse than the others... sleeve bearings just don't last.

It also helps to keep them in a vertical position (but mine are, and they're dying still)

Yate Loon fans are inexpensive sleeve fans, so they're not expected to have a stellar lifecycle really. However, while that might explain the grinding/clicking, throwing blades around is certainly not normal, unless the bearing was so off-centre that the blades hit the housing at speed and snapped off.

I've got 9 yates running 24/7. After 1-2 years, they rub and click, and eventually fail.

however, they don't throw fan blades.

Something got in the fan, and made it go bye bye.

thats just it, there are no wires that could have gotten caught up in the fan, its just wierd. The only wires near the fan are the fan wires themselves and those are tucked behind the motherboard tray.

Velly intelesting *stroking 5 o'clock chin shadow* This probably supports the 'counterfeit' Yate-Loons theory. Put simply there have been lengthy discussions about the design and motor engineering of fans labeled as Yate Loon but do not match up with the 'authentic' models performance nor reliability that Petra's has been selling.
