Poor Performance Why?

i probably should mention i had these problems from day one, i didnt just happen to mess something up :[

Ever think that that is how fast it is going to be?

I would try the 3.10 Catalyst Driver's, I would also make sure that you have the lastest patches for all the games that you are playing, or for w/e you are trying to do.

One other thing that I might take into consideration is the order that you are installing everything. Make sure you install DX9 first, and then your Drivers. I know you said that is how you did it earlier, but it's easy to screw the order up.

i just put my system together with a different motherboard (albatron px845 pev) and having the same problems... what conclusion should i draw from that ...

Run some benchmarks, post some numbers. Any benchmarks from games you play like quake 3, heck even quake 2, sof2, anything. Many demos include benchmarks.

In the mean time make sure vsync is OFF in both the video settings, and the game settings.

If you downloaded rage3d or something put the settings back to default.

Next thing you could do is pull out 1 ram stick, try it, then switch the sticks.

Make sure (this is gonna sound dumb) That you have the external power connecter hooked up to the radeon.

Ive seen problems with sb lives! on non via boards also. Seems like they dont like having irqs with friends, creative never taught them to share! Bad creative bad!

only have one stick of ram (that doesnt suck), i get around 50 fps in ut2k3 and around 70 in counter strike. like i said above about a 5400 in 3dmark2003

cpu benchmarks in sandra were perfect

You said you tried a GF4 Ti4600...

You realose you cant really mix drivers like that, I have had bad performance experiences with putting in an nvidia card after an ATI card and vice versa.. Drivers get a bit funky and you get bad performance.

Not sure if you tried it yet, but did you run memtest to see if your ram is crapping out?

Also I would check out the harddrive, mabey its taking a crap. #dmark doesnt really test the harddrive, so once everything is laoded into ram, it wont effect yoru 3dmark, so mabey check out using a different drive.

Its weird though because that system should be blazing fast for normal use. have you used a different computer somewhere and felt it was much faster with similar specs?

Also check out using a different copy of xp, mabey you got a disk thats screwed up or something.

no drivers were mixed, formatted

ill run memtest tonight, i tried running it before but i needed the use the comp before it was finished

tested the harddrive

yes

ive tried 2 different xps

You might wanna try disabling your soundcard for troubleshooting purposes in system. reboot then fire up a game and see how it goes.
