poor NF7-S ram configuration options

well i have the abit NF7-S v2 motherboard and have just realized that if i were to buy another stick of 512MB pc3200 ram that i would be stuck with exactly that, a total of 1GIG ram in this motherboard with no more space to improve. well wtf is that all about? is there going to be some driver release from nvidia/abit sometime that will allow all the DIMM slots to be used with 400Mhz ram or what? this is my only problem with this board but it is a big problem because i am guessing that within a year, 1.5 gig of ram will be a recommended spec and i really don't feel like replacing my whole mobo just to get more ram in the thing. i looked at that DFI ultra infinity but have read of soo many DOAs and it also doesn't support my sp-97 Thermalright heatsink so that is out of the picture (although i liked that it supported 3GB of pc3200/400Mhz ram).. well sorry for going off on a rant but i am just asking for some input as to what i should do about this stupid situation.

I seriously doubt you will need more then 1GB of RAM anytime soon, unless you are dealing with video or heavy image editing.

If you know you will need 1.5gb of RAM (whether now, or a year from now), then you are right to be ranting.

If you don't, and are just guessing/ranting for nothing, then dont' worry about it. A gig of RAM should be more than enough for a long time in my opinion. I'm doing fine with 512mb, but in a year I will probably move up to a gig (with my next cpu/mobo purchase).

As far as the DFI and the doa thing... well, I wouldn't let that stop me from buying a DFI. I haven't heard much about the issue except from people who are afraid to buy one because of the rumors.

This is the test.. for actual brains.

NVidia did the EXAMPLE reference board with 3 DIMM sockets on it. To show the flexibility. ANY TIME the idiot board makers want to add the 4th socket.. for 2Gig dual channel, they can... just lay it the FK out. they are all so damn cheap they took NV's printed circuit board films and made boards from them initially.

Even those that did some custom features never dared alter the memory layout section, since NONE of them have any actual ENGINEERs on staff. Welcome to manufacturing by the 3rd world.
If they tried they'd FK it up.

Gigabyte did a 4 dimm layout, but left off the cpu socket bolt holes and all the bios controls that provide us with the overclocking tweaks. One has cake, the other has eatit2.

quite true, 90 vs 148, lol... but i like the soundstorm audio so much
