my motherboard fried a couple weeks ago... so i bought on ebay used like new:
-xeon w3570 (comparable to i7)

- ga-x58a-ud3r motherboard 80$, some non-sata3 are 50-75$, make sure its L1366 compatible for xeons

-8gb of ddr3 ram
gskill ddr-1866

now the fun part.. at stock it fluctuates between 3.3-3.5ghz. i bought a nice arctic 13 cooler.

going to test voltage settings. any ideas? i want to get 4ghz.

3.8ghz i dont like the 70-75c temps.
4ghz often hangs but i cant figure out vsettings

3460ghz 55c or less. i might just stick here and be happy.

You should of got the 212+ cpu cooler. It would of helped keep your temps down.

I did a lot of research they are comparable. I'm wondering if its because i used their stock mx4 (good) heatsink paste strip thats on the heatsink. well square patch. it now covers the entire cpu with paste and its hot temps.

im wondering if i should just clean it and then only apply a little paste in the middle on the main core.
