I ran some benchmarks from anandtech using their own demos to compare to this article...http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2278&p=3 to my surprise my numbers are alot lower than there comparable 6800GT with an A64 4000+
1280x1024 high quality, reflect world, no AA/AF, trilinear, vsync OFF
My fps Anandtech fps
C17- 57 84
Canal- 87 110
Coast05- 90 123
Coast12-86 107
Prison- 93 112

Im losing over 20fps in every demo i ran, sometimes getting beat by a 9800 pro WTF, im running an A64 3000+ they used a 4000+ is there really that big of difference fps wise?
Dont tell me to turn off fast writes cause that dont do a dam thing :p

Control panel settings: AA/AF vsync set to app. control, image setting is quality

How can I try out this benchmark?

I will run it too and see if I get the same problem, but I don't know where to download it.

Well, they are running dual channel DDR while your not (very small difference but it adds some FPS). Also the speed difference does make a big impact when it comes to FPS there.

Enough for the 4000+ with 9800 pro to beat my 3000+ with a 6800gt that dont seem right. 2 out of the 5 demos i got beat by 9800 pro, either their numbers are fubar or somethings wrong with my system. Im leaning towards the first option, i get 4900 in 3d05 and 11k in 3d03 pretty normal for stock 6800gt.

I'm willing to bet that that 9800 Pro will outscore nobi125's setup when he figures out how to benchmark it :D

But you are correct, something is screwy with your setup...

Thanks.........not only did you not help me but you gotta make fun of my rig........... :(

lol Sorry, I'll see if there is a step by step on HL2 benchmarking. I thought AT disclosed all their tests so you could duplicate them.

It would be impossible for them to replicate the exact same actions ingame over and over. There has to be a time demo type program they use.

There is, and I believe AT has them for download. At least they used to. I haven't gone to that site in a while...

You download their 5 demos and run timedemo in hl2 console.

I figured that much, but I couldn't find the page where you download them from.

Yes. See this article. Shows nicely how HL2 scales with CPU:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2330&p=2

Well, they are running dual channel DDR while your not (very small difference but it adds some FPS).
For HL2, it can be 5-10 FPS for this difference alone:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2330&p=3

So with single channel mem. and the lower CPU speed, the difference isn't that surpising to me.

And if you're lazy like me, you can just download the Guru3D HL2 demos. Great little application, and several sites are using Demo5 as their benchmark now:

Ati cards rock on HL2, that's all there is to it. I had a 6800nu that benched better in 3dmark05 than my current x800se, but the x800se kicks it's but in HL2. Seriously.

6800: 16x6 350 core--> better in 3dmark
x800se: 8x6 420 core.----> better in HL2

I must note that the 6800nu was on a socket 754 2800 clocked at 2.0, and the x800se is on a 939 2000 clocked at 2.0 as well. Don't know if that makes much of a difference though.

I would also like to note: I've got a friend that has a 7800gtx, and the screenies he showed me of HL2 was breath taking. So, I might try another Nvidia card again.

Take a look at this article, only a 2 fps difference between the 4000+ and 3000+ running a 6800gt at 1280x1024 4aa/16af http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/athlon_64_geforce_7800_gtx_scaling/page10.asp doesnt seem right youd think there would be a bigger gap between the numbers.

I've got two, and that's the truth. With 8X SLI AA, it's startling, and very playable at 1920 X 1200. I'm actually re-playing the whole game and loving it with the mega eye-candy. Here's a screen cap I took:

I saw a test once with an FX-51 and Ti4200 running Unreal Tournament 2003. LOL, it had 131 frames per second. w00t!
Hahahah!! Makes me laugh.

Alright, I am back.

Here's what I got at the same settings they used:

C17- 38
Canal- 55
Coast05- 56
Coast12- 60
Prison- 61

Pretty damn dissapointing.

I got owned by a 9700 pro in all but two tests.

Well you have all the right components, just need to find you a good deal on a CPU/MB combo and your all set. Check out FS/FT forum..

If you're thinking about a new CPU, consider this: the multitasking on dual core CPUs is insane. You can like, game and download crap at the same time. :)

Only problem is that I would have to pick up a Nforce3 based mobo because my 6800GT is agp.
