poor far cry performance with 6800

I just got a new 6800 and have been very disappointed with its performance in far cry. Ive been trying to play at 1280x1024 with all settings at very high except particle count and special effects both on high, and i still cant get a constant decent framerate. Whenever i get into a decent sized firefight it drops below 30 and the game becomes unplayable. Anyone know what the problem is? Is my card just not as fast as i thought it was? Am cpu limited? Yes, i did install the drivers correctly and no, neither aa nor af are on.
 
Without AA and AF enabled don't expect a constant framerate. I had that same problem with the machine specs in sig. All I did was enable AA and AF. Although I did get a lesser frame rate it was a solid one that didn't change to much and as a result it felt alot smoother. I got a constant 45-60ish FPS. Not too bad.
 
Sorry, just enabled Signature Display, and saw your system specs. I think your system is good enough for FarCry.

You can see with 6800 GT, which of higher grade than 6800, in the resolution of 1024 x 768 with 4x AA enable, the Far Cry frame rate is 48.4.

Although the senario might differ, essentially the performance of your 6800 seems rather abnormal, you may ask the dealer to check the quality of this 6800.
 
I know you said all of your settings are on very high, but make sure water isn't on ultra high because that can really kill your performance.
 
even with shadows in medium and water on high im still getting drops below 30, which, with the 5th fastest video card on the planet right now i dont think i should be getting at only 1280x1024 with no aa or af. anyone have any other ideas?
 
you have upgraded to the 1.1 or 1.2V patch for Far Cry right?

try reinstalling ur graphics drivers? Upgrade to 1.1 or 1.2 like said ^, check to make sure ur in game settings are ok....see if the cpu is clocked right, or gpu... Is ur powersupply large enough? is ur g-card getting enough power? do u have bad memory? Is your card overheating a lil and its being throttled down?
 
1.1 installed, cpu is at 2.2ghz, i do have only a 350w antec smart power that seems to be holding me back at least on my cpu oc. could that have anything to do with it.
 
I wouldn't exactly call that poor performance. There aren't a lot of other cards that can push Far Cry at 1280 and everything on very high. I've got the system below and I run it as follows:
1024x768
Everything at "Very High"
2xAA,4xAF

I don't moniter frame rates, but I feel it slow down occasionally in large jungle sections, otherwise its nice and crisp. Your CPU would be a bit of a bottleneck but the system is pretty balanced. Maybe drop the resolution a little or OC the video card.
 
dude, a 350w is dangerously low...go get a 400 or more.. Remeber what nvidia recommended was 450, but id say 400 is perfect...(everyone says that during countless flamewars :D)
 
ive been playing farcry at 1280x1024 w/ 2xaa and 8xaf and my fps never goes lower than 50fps. this is with the specs in my sig. i even have the image quality in the control panel set to high quality.do you have v-sync disabled and do you have the latest drivers?

i get good oc out of xp2500 n 6800nu on 250w psu n im using stock cooling.

n farcry (1.1 patch) runs smoothly at 1280x1024 with everything on very high.
i didnt get the fps on farcry but get about 6xfps on doom3 timedemo 1280x1024 ultra detail.
 
Heres something that might help ya. I was getting horrible far cry frames on my system as well. Update all your motherboard drivers. As soon as i did that it ran 100x better.

Uh wrong, thats horrible performance. My radeon vmodded radeon 9700 pro @ 425/360 can run 1280x1024 everything very high and water ultra high with a 4ghz p4 powering it and never drop below 30. If I turn water down to very high and lighting to medium never dips below 45ish.

His card should be pulling 50+ at all times, even with the weak cpu.

don't laugh. Your system doesnt take up hardly any power. I have had a 430 wat antec trupower hold back my overclock on the cpu by 100mhz and on the graphics card I had to pick between high vid card oc and low cpu speed of vice versa. After I got my pcp&c 510 deluxe which is the closest to 1000w your getting on the normal consumer market I was able to sustain 4ghz with 425mhz on the core and 360 on the mem of my radeon 9700 pro, and have benchmarks to prove it (almost 22k 3dmark2001 and 6600 2003). I couldn't believe that it was the psu that was holding me back (especially as I had done 3 vmods to it) so i switched back. Overclocks dropped again to the exact same levels.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again:

the psu is the most commonly overlooked factor in overclocking woes/stability. get a good one or you'll pay (more).

Thanks for the support because yeah my psu is holding back my ocing. My rails arent stable and i get random restarts whenever i have both vid card and cpu clocked as high as i know they can go stabley.

I think I'm gonna install the nforce2 drivers that came out recently and see how that works.

Yes vsync is disabled for whoever asked.
