Poor Doom3 performance

I've notice peope with similiar systems are getting better time demo results and its made me wonder what the heck is goin
on with my computer....
I have a Athlon64 3400+, Asus K8N-E deluxe, Geforce6800gt (61.77), 1 gig of ddr400 ram...yet I get 22fps in timedemo at 1280x1024 with no aa and 8xaf. I get a 3dmark03 score of 10900. Does that seem right. Is there a way to diagnose wether there is an issue with my cpu, motherboard, graphics card,ram issue? Thanks in advance for any help.

yeah im getting the same problem... im only gettin 40 fps int he time demo... whereas other with the same system get over 60

I ran sissoft sandra and found my benchmarks fall below identical system test done by Tweaktown, that did a round up of my Asus board...guh, oh well...I guess I have to live with suckiness after all, had such hi expectations for this system too.

Make sure you run the timedemo twice to get a reasonable score. The first run is always slow because of image caching.

There is a bug if you have multiple monitors setup on the card. Disable the second display then run the timedemo.

Something is definately wrong with 22fps at those settings. I run an almost Identical setup (3200+, K8N Neo, 6800GT(61.77), 1GB DDR 400) and I get 47fps timedemos at 1280X1024 with 2AA and Vsync On. My 3dMark03 is identical to yours - 10800.

have you all tried doing any kind of tweaking with doom 3's config file? heres a link to some stuff you can do.

i used some of the ideas and my performance is top notch in doom 3. i havent run the time demo yet but my fps in doom 3 never goes below 50. rig is in sig. im using the 61.77 drivers. run doom 3 at 1280x1024 at ultra quality with 4xaa and 8xaf. i dont know what to tell you guys but hopefully doing some of these tweaks will help out. good luck

ah cool, thanks. I had tried setting up an autoconfig file before and not liking the results, the tearing when not using v-sync is awfful. will try again, etc etc. gonna just stop trippin on this stuff, no fun.

Your system may just be poorly optimized, or have viruses/spyware or messed up settings in XP. That kind of thing can cut your performance in HALF, easily.

Really depends upon the game. But most people (that I know) that run dual monitors only play games on one of the monitors. The graphics card - un less it is told otherwise - has to maintain both monitors while gaming.

You can disable the second monitor while gaming by selecting something in the properties box. I found the way to do this by following the directions in an article that was on the hardocp.com home page. Google "6800 optimazations" or something like that to find out how to do this.

I had similiar problems with poor frame rates. Make sure you update your bios, i have same mobo as you and when i updated the bios my performance went up alot.

The fact is this. If you run mutliple monitors with D3, you will have a massive loss in FPS.
Period.
Look at the attached pic. Set it single display. Run the timedemo twice and give us your second score. It will be higher. Also, make sure you have AA and AF to application preference.

Someone can give you the actual command but it is something like this:

From the main menu of the game (right after starting it up) hit something like Control + Alt + "~". This will bring up the console within the game. Then type "Timedemo demo1.demo"

Run this 2X and take the second score.

or to have to precache "timedemo demo1 1"

12.5K. Oddly enough my X800Pro in the same machine does about the same. About 12.1K in 3DMark 03. Now my 6800GT stock was higher than my X800Pro. OC'ing is how I got there really.

What's odd is I dropped down to 10K when I OC'ed the 6800GT's ram higher than 1.1GHz.

The tearing was rubbish on my system as well, and I only managed to fix it after I'd completed the game :-(

Try putting 'com_fixedtic -1' (without quotes) in your autoexec to uncap the 60fps limit in game. Turn v-synch off.

Then fiddle with the mouse smoothing to see if it helps - it was this that had the most effect on mine, though there's all sorts of other things you can try. Sometimes the tearing is hard work to get rid of...
