I have dual Xeon X5550 on an Intel mainboard S5520HC w/ 6GB DDR3 RAM. Everything runs stock and is stable.
I run -bigadv on that guy pretty much straight up but was wondering if i could get better performance by changing out the mainboard. i think i get about 35k PPD on it running on 2008 R2.

would changing out to an SR-2 and OCing those CPUs give any significant increase in PPD?

thanks!

Without a doubt going to an SR-2 would increase your PPD quite a bit. Go for it if you can afford the board and additional RAM, etc.

You would more than double the ppd. By how much depends on the OC.

I doubt that it will be that much. You should be around 58K ppd now. If you get up to 4.15 GHz with an SR-2, you would see around 92K ppd. I also am not optimistic on a great overclock with those chips. They are very hot-running to begin with. You will need some pretty decent cooling to get them very high.

If you want a free 12K ppd, switch that machine to Linux + BFS + kraken wrapper. Mine does 70K ppd consistently with that setup. I also still use it as a file server.

I was going 35kpd listed above.
