Getting my components all figured out, piece by piece :)

It's looking like my CPU will be an overclocked 3000+ Venice.

Which motherboard should I get? I've seen the A8N thrown around alot, and I was wondering which of the two was better?

    Thoughts?

I've used both, and have both right in front of my eyes. And all I can say is DFI is way more superior than A8N-E by every aspects, like stability (Well, it's about same for almost NF4I guess), options, and overclocking (My X2 3800+ pass all the stablity tests @ 2.8GHz with DFI, while it doesn't even boot 2.7GHz with ASUS).

Yay, Looking like it'll be DFI.

Just got worried when I heard stories of them:
    Frying CPU's
    Dying Fans
    Not cooperating with RAM
    Not liking PSU's

But, I'm open minded, so I threw another one in the mix. Besides, It'll loox shexay with a black PCB xfx card ;)

See, you go to DFI-Street, and noone comments if your components are supported, or they tell you it's your fault.

    Not the nicest people ;)

    256MB PC2100 to 1GB PC3200
    FX5200 to 7800GT

    hehe :D

though sometimes i have to wonder.. why buy s939 now? personally, i'd wait 2 months and get AM2. i know it's gonna be hella "immature", but isn't that half the fun of being an enthusiast, trying new hardware?

Sure, go find me a OCing CPU and and OCing mobo for $200 at release and I'll be right on that ;)

Budget here. I'll upgrade to AM2 (Or Conroe) round X-Mas, unless prices convince me otherwise.

    ULTRA-D

I wouldnt use DFI for the longest time 'cause of all teh problems people had with them. Well, my buddy sent me a dead Ultra-D to RMA for him, and it had been sitting in my closet for months, probably around 6 or so months. couple weeks ago i decided to get it out and play with it... i was scared - scared taht it would kill my memory or some other shit that they have been known to do from time to time, but hey... thats what warranties are for right?

booted it up the first time, BIOS ROM checksum error. thats alright, a BIOS flash later and its up and running. i have my 3800 running at 2.6ghz now, with 1.65v. before, with my A8N-SLI premium, i couldnt even hit 2.4ghz with 1.5ish volts, it would fail prime. I have it running 24/7 at 2.5, 1.55v, 100% stable. I LOVE this board, and my premium is going up for sale.

my vote went to the ultra-d

Ultra-D. If you wanna go SLi later you can do the mod to turn it on.

    :) :p :)

Come on guys. "dfi is a cpu murderer"..........do you have any proof that no other brand has killed a CPU? Or that a mobo that ISNT overclocked killed a CPU?

    Nope, unfortunately.

I believe it was nVidia that threw a bitch fit because DFi took their Ultra chipset. This way, they didn't have to pay for the "SLI" naming, and could still give their consumers SLi possibilities.

I *believe* the only revision that can be modded is rev. AD0.

no, they all can. with newer boards there's a bit of epoxy over the spot that requires modding, but it's not hard to remove.

Damnit, I gotta stay from DFI street. There was a warning, by a mod nonetheless, that the boards that could not be modded had a different chipset.

hm.. i would check to find out for you right now, but i really don't feel like ripping apart my rig to pop the chipset sink off. that said, i could be wrong, but i don't believe i am.
edit: nope, i'm not. modded AD0:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1374065&postcount=11

the guys at the street have said some other curious stuff as well. example: you must have the floppy and molex power plugs connected for stability.
i tested myself, my AC0 actually oc'ed BETTER without the two plugged in. though i doubt my gf4mx draws a whole lot out power, it shows that there's more to the story than they let onto :(
