YouTube, as part of a new “voter education initiative”, will be hosting a slew of new political ads. The idea is to help politicians get their message out to as many people as possible.

"This is such an important election coming up that we just wanted to make sure we did everything we could in terms of helping candidates get their messages out, but also helping voters start a dialogue with those candidates on issues that really hit home at them individually," said Jordan Hoffner, YouTube's director of content partnerships.

Im not sure if people are going to pay much attention to these. While watching tv shows, most of us are forced to watch them... But watching political ads voluntarily? Although, the internet lets them have an advertisement avalible to million of people for free.

I'll admit have watched Ted Kennedy's video about his position on net nutrality, but thats not the typical type of political ad you would ever see on tv or radio (The typical "vote for me next month because im awesome").

This is like asking a kid to eat all his vegetables and do his homework voluntarily, lol.

I don't think it would be effective unless if they really made it interesting/funny.

all the polis will get out of youtube is another place to sling mud, and have embarrassments from their past made public

Don't they mean "take information and spin it" propaganda?

I started seeing somewhat political ads a few weeks ago, but there's just one problem. All the ones I've seen have titles like "AMERICAN IDOL TOP 20" and the screen caps are always of women in bathing suits or what have you. I curiously click to see which episode that was from :p only to find that it's basic political propaganda.
