PoE over Powerline?

I recently bought 2 trendnet 200Mbps powerline adapters, and they work pretty well for simple things.

My question is: Can you use PoE through them?

I read a post here, and tried googling information on this, but didn't find anything. The only thing I found was in that last post, where they said it should work but not through the adapters themselves (in that link, someone says to make sure the PoE injector goes between the adapter and the device, along the cable. I was wondering if you could run PoE through it, and have it come out the other end, and power something. I know a PoE injector would work on the cable run that exits from the adapter (theres no reason it shouldn't), but does anybody know if I can inject PoE on one end, have it travel through both powerline adapters, and power whatever PoE device on the other end?

Most of you are probably thinking "What's the point, when you can just plug a PoE injector into the outlet that the powerline adapter is in?", but I want the other end to only have the device and the powerline adapter *only*... not a PoE injector also (I could just plug the device into the same outlet, in that case).

Thanks.. been wondering for a while now, and didn't want to test it out myself and it not work :cool:
 
Where to start ...

1. The adapters are bridges that take whatever standard is running on the powerlines and convert it ethernet and vice versa.

2. The power lines are AC

3. The P in PoE is DC

In short, very much and in every way no.
 
No I dont think you can, but there is some powerlines models with built-in wifi
 
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I was searching for this same solution, and didn't want to make a new thread about the same subject...

I did find some PoLi adapters w/ built-in PoE, but they are older models and limited to 200 Mbps. I haven't had any success in finding newer models with 500-1200 Mbps and PoE with the newer AV2 spec.

What I am leaning towards is going with a 600+ Mbps AV2 adapter with a wall plug pass-through, then connecting a PoE injector to the pass-through.

Adapter: ZyXEL PLA5215KIT
PoE Injector: Premiertek PT-POE-4804


I'll be running a security camera off of each PoE Injector, so the connection would be:

HARDWARE
Wall plug
**
PoLi Adapter
**
PoE Injector
**
Camera


CABLES
LAN cable (short/jumper) between PoLi Adapter and PoE injector input
LAN cable between PoE injector output and Camera

Done!

i actually have this set up in my shed running a camera.... ubiquiti cam

works fine...

why wouldn't it?
