Looking at the pny 8800gts 320 because it's 249AR now. Can't find anything at pny.com about their warranty on their products.

Is it better to just get an evga for ten bucks more?

+1 for eVGA. Their support can't be beat.

+ Lifetime warranty covering heatsink changes (keep old for RMA puposes!) and overclocking (something some of the competition may do, but officially forbid in the terms..)

+ Step-up program, good if you're interested in upgrading to G81 cards (assuming they come within 90 days of purchase. warning: you pay the difference between your actual paid price and THEIR MSRP though (think of the time you get to use the card though, that's worth something, and they DON'T subtract from what you paid in the meantime)

+ Good RMA support, and you can actually get ahold of their people via their message boards. People like Jacob Freeman and Joe Darwin were *easily* accessible when I was in need of support (esp during the 7900 fiasco)...No being FORCED to *call* them for support, although in event of an RMA, you would NEED to email a copy of your invoice & fax them a (completed) copy of their RMA form.

Some more crap I could go through, but I've had enough ;). Other than eVGA, (IMO) XFX is the closest competitor, if for nothing else their double lifetime warranty. They may not (officially) support overclocking and heatsink changes (ala eVGA), but a nice rep would let that kind of thing slide. BFG, (IMO) is overpriced compared to the other 2, given that their cards, even o/c models tend to be (quite a bit) lower clocked than those of eVGA/XFX. The other competition (MSI/PNY/etc) aren't even in the running - no lifetime warranty (2 years max usually, which I believe PNY has, and one year w/out registration), they would drop support in a second with mention of o/cing/heatsink swaps.

I want to add that even though eVGA offers lifetime warranty you MUST register the product within 30 days of invoice to be eligible for it. Otherwise warranty is only 1-2 years.

I think BFG has a lifetime warranty as well. That is what keeps eVGA and BFG at the top of my list.

No matter which you purchase, be sure to register it with the manufacturer immediately, for reasons mentioned above. If you can print your invoice to PDF, you can upload it to eVGA from the website after registering it. Then should RMA service ever be needed, no hunting for proof or purchase 3 years down the road. Very handy.

Yeah evga's lifetime and step up program are very nice. More so the 90 day step up program. As far as the warranty goes, lime is great but if my card died after the 3 year mark ( normal warranty of many other makers ) I'd probably just want a new graphics card anyway, 3 years and that sucker will be a dinosaur anyway in computer terms :p

okay maybe not a dinosaur. Pick whichever you feel better about.

PNY has an ok warranty if you register the card since they will up it to 3 years when you do. My 2 year old PNY 6600 started having fan issues so I gave them a call and they quickly sent me a pdf with a RMA return label and also a link to track the RMA status. They got my card 3 days after I sent it by US mail and emailed me to say they will shipping out my new product Monday. Hopefully it will be here by Thursday or Friday but not sure what they mean by new. They were extremely easy to deal with and very courteous.

thanks for the thoughts. 3 year warranty is essentially a lifetime warranty for something like a graphics card, since 3-4 years is the max most people have them.

pny's lifetime warrenty is the retail lifetime of the card. Not the usefull lifetime. i had a 4200ti die after 2 weeks and i tried to warrenty rma it. i was told that sence the fx series cards came out i was out of luck. (i bought it right after the fx cards went on sale).

long story short they fucked me. lifetime is not like you think.it does not cover outdated products.

I'd go with eVGA as well.. Unlike the last horror story about the 4200TI card not being replaced... if eVGA doesn't make or have the card in stock it will send something close to the specs you had.. but higher, I doubt they would send you something lower. Like during the 7900 problems... some people got 7950s & 7900GTX's as replacements.

I think it would go eVGA, XFX, BFG, MSI, and PNY for last... for brands & RMA process\ Lifetime warranties for videocards.

Retail lifetime= As long as card is in production(im pretty sure).

Go evga... they've got support everywhere!;)

And everyone has pretty much made the case of EVGA already so i think you know who you should buy with. Haha, dont forget the 90day stepup program.

Yeah, but they stopped making like certain cards, like most 6 series and 7 series cards have been discontinued.

yeah, they are always changing certain models too... like they stopped making 6800 ultra's and gt's... they have GSs now and stuff. Same with the 7 series... (notice I only know nVidia) Sorry ATI guys!! My wife has onboard ATI 9000. haha (it blows)

But yeah, play it safe and go eVGA... it will be the best thing you ever did. It's like getting a car and having free insurance when it breaks down!

haha yeah, miller. good call.

Yeah, anyways.... evga is pretty good. I was happy with them and im pretty much a fan for life.... NOT an employee. lol.
