PNY or EVGA GeForce GTX 580

I personally have never had problems with my 2 previous PNY cards. However, they have shady "lifetime" warranties on their cards, defined as the lifetime of the product on the market, meaning outdated technology isn't covered. So, let's say you get one of these 580s from PNY and it goes bad. If nvidia hasn't released their new chipset, you should be fine and covered. If newer stuff has been released, well... you're SOL.

I'd probably go with EVGA regardless. Better quality stuff, and great support. Slight price increase over competitors sometimes, but probably worth it.

By the way, the SC version of that card just means it's a factory overclocked card.

By the way, when looking into EVGA cards, check the last 2 digits in the model number. Those digits are what they use for warranty markers. http://www.evga.com/support/warranty/

In this case, the on you selected has a limited 2 year warranty.

Wow awesome! Thanks for the explanation. I'm going to pick up the 580 SC (Lifetime warranty instead of 2 year).

Just buy the cheaper one. I haven't had bad experience with PNY, especially in the last few years. EVGA does have renowned CS, but my GTX 570's are EVGA just because they were the cheapest :p

for the extra $10 i'd go with EVGA. i assume they're still running their 'trade-up' program?

Now I'm finding out with research that people are saying the SLI 560 TI is better than the 580...

which one! I'm so confused!

that would be 'better' than a GTX580. take a look at [H]'s review comparing the GTX580 and GTX460 SLI: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/12/02/geforce_gtx_580_vs_460_1gb_sli/1

560 TI's outperform 460's, for a point of reference. i went with SLI 460's because they are significantly cheaper than a 580. if i had to do it over again...i'd probably just pony up for a single 580. i prefer single card solutions. that's a can of worms that you can spend endless hour reading about though.

i've had experience with EVGA cards and they're warranty. both are great. when i had a problem (7900gtx sc going bad TWICE, remember the 7900's nvidia?), EVGA promptly replaced both cards then when the 2nd one tested faulty they sent me a 7950gx2 which was a much faster card at the time. wow. +1 EVGA

I definitely would go evga for only a $10 price premium. PNY's warranty is inferior to EVGA's. That $10 buys you much more piece of mind.

Okay so this card is in stock (I would prefer to pick it up and and not wait shipping)

But then there is the exact same card with the super overclock that isn't in stock (I'd have to order online)

Does it really matter normal clock to super clock?

Not really, you can easily clock the stock card up to and beyond the superclocked speed.

Yea go EVGA they have one of the best customer service. And most stock cards can overclock decently to the super clock and higher.
