2 Years ago I made the mistake of purchasing a PNY ti4200. In short I've RMA'd it 3 times for blown capacitors. It has been running fine in my shuttle box for a while, but was generally unstable on my msi kt266 board.

Well, I have just recieved my new asus KT800 board and it turns out I get no video signal with it on this board. Swapped in a Leadtek Geforce 2 Pro which runs like a champ (although is a very slow champ).

I tested the ti4200 last night on a really old AMD box (kt133 I believe), and it runs fine.

Meanwhile I've tried swapping power supplies on my box (Antec True Power 380w, and Enermax 350w), both have the same result of no video signal.

Am I just skrewed with this card, and is it just generally incompatable? Perhaps something about a higher fsb? I'm about ready to dropkick it, so I am welcome to any help I can get.

Thanks a lot guys,
-Joe

P.S. recommendations for a video card in the $200-250 range? It seems as though the 9800 Pro is the best bet, although any input would be appriciated.

the 9800pro is the best thing in the $200 range, though if you can holdout for a Geforce 6800nu that is a bit better than the 9800pro but will cost around $300 or so i believe atm

If you havent modified/damaged the card try RMAing it, pny has the whole lifetime warranty thing going i think (they wont replace it if they dont have any gf4 4200's left though so you might be out of luck there)

Hello,

I read somewheres that that board had problems with certain Ti cards. Have you tried flashing to the latest bios from Asus's site? Also if you are looking for a new card in the price range you specified you may want to stear clear of the 9800 Pro. Dont get me wrong its a great card but the 6800 NU's are quite a bit faster and have PS/VS 3 support as well and can be had for just a few more that the 9800 Pro. Hope this helps.

Zachary

Thanks for the fast response guys... yeah I just checked out the 6800 NU and it deffinetly seems like a nice choice... what manufacturer should I look for? I personally know that PNY's "Lifetime warranty" is b/s and misleading, but I am hoping that they may offer me a discount on a new card.

I've had similar problems with my PNY ti4400 but not to the extent of having to RMA. When I first got it it was on an old AMD761 chipset board from gigabyte which the GF2 it replaced hadn't had problems with. It would give me random blue screens and dump me to the desktop fairly often and wasn't verry happy with it at all. But, similarly to what you did, I put it on a different board, its currently on a NF7-S with zero problems, PNY must make them flakey on purpose or something. Or maybe they don't like older chipsets, who knows.

last time I had it RMA'd they asked me specifics about what type of board I had, citing that voltage problems were responsible for killing cards... that really just seems like an excuse for a bigger flaw in the design of their card........ it seems to have wide spread incompatability with quite a few amd boards.

After looking around at VIA forums I've concluded that my motherboard is both a pos, and a pita to operate. I wouldn't typically be an early adopter of anything, but this time I thought it would be fine with a trusted name like asus, guess not

Any word on the availability of RMA'ed 4200's? I am in the process of sending mine back and would like to know. Mine also has blown capacitors/resistors.

i had to rma my pny ti4400 like a month after i had bought it right when they first came out, it was something about bad memory or something i cant remember, but it was artifacting in the bios and stuff. all these bad experiences with pny...
